On YOUR Life Mottoes

San Francisco, CA

Hey there! Last week I discussed words to live by, and shared some of my own. Like I mentioned, I talked to assorted friends, family, and co-workers, simply asking them, "Hey, what's your life motto?"

I got such an awesome response! In fact, no one I asked had nothing to contribute (some were not included because of length or content ;) sorry! You still inspire me!) I want to write these all down in my journal and peek at them when I'm having a lackluster day. It is so encouraging to me, and also very interesting to hear what words inspire others.

Also, thank you to those to commented on my mottoes post and included some of their own!

Here's what my people had to say (Names are linked to their previous presence on my blog/their own blog. Individual commentary is below the quote in italics.)

Huntee said:

"I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday."
"Just be here." - from an interview with Matthew McConaughey

Sundar un-officially said (and might kill me for including this!):

"You gotta act like wherever you are...that's the place to be!" - from Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Galina said:

"Go forth and set the world on fire." - St. Ignatius
It's come to mean a lot to me & how I approach my life & vocation.

Amir said:

"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." - Jesus in John 10:10
[I believe that God] wants us to have the most full and complete lives possible.

Jenae said (and got this as a tattoo in her parent's writing, so cool!):
"Today you are you that is truer than true there is no one alive that is you-er than you." - Dr. Seuss

Jacqui said:
"It is what it is."
I say that to keep from getting stressed and complaining.

Trace said:

"I don't have like a motto that I live by for myself, so I came up with one. 'Screw up, go off the deep end, live an unconventional life, and continually surprise yourself.  The preconceived notions upon which you've lived your life need to be tested in order to form and reform stronger convictions.  You'll always find your way back, I guarantee it.  We never stray too far from who we are at the core.  Just listen and surprise yourself, but above all, authenticate your life.'"

Katie said:
"I celebrate you!"
"No moms no rules." (coined by Jaymie Shearer)

Dith said:
"To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself. " - Soren Kierkegaard
"No one is free until everyone is free. "

Rachel said:
"In the places I go there are things that I see that I never could spell if I stopped with the z." - Dr Seuss
I love it, and I always think about it when I think there is only way to go, like I have to follow what other people have done in life.  It's about thinking outside the box.

Logan said:
“Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love."

Stephanie said:
"Be passionate about hearing other peoples passions!"
"Never trust someone that has more than three bumper stickers."
These are two separate ones.

Andrea said:
“I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” - Coco Chanel
I LOVE this quote! It always motivates me to fix myself up at least a little bit!

(another) Logan said:
“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.” Khalil Gibran

Gigi said:
"Never settle."
That one is from my mom and applies to most everything!

Ashley said:
"Life is just a bunch of memories."
[My uncle] gave me this advice the day before my wedding, when I was freaking out about the possibility of something going wrong. He told me that life is just a bunch of memories, and if something DOES go wrong, in a few years, I'll look back and it won't be anything more than a memory.

Larissa said:
"I have more a kind of philosophy of life which is difficult to put in just one or two sentences, but which mainly is about being good to others, enjoying every day, believing that everything happens for a reason, and that everything will be good in the end."

Lauren said:
"Life is short."
Although I'm not the best at it, I try to remember how short life is when trying to overcome fears, or decide how to spend my time.

Thank you once again to everyone to contributed, and entertained my whim!

If you haven't contributed already (or would like to again) go ahead and leave me a comment! I really don't think it's possible to have too many positive words at the ready. And perhaps I can combine them in another post.

Thank you all, take a phrase and have a wonderful day!!

I should really stop using that term, because it sounds so serious and finite. Several of mine are really, really silly. So it's more just like, phrases you like to keep in mind. I'm sure you've got some good ones (involving B maybe?)

….wow so me and Sundar should clearly hang out because we used the same unofficial quote! Hahahah how hilarious. I love that St Ignatius quote also. My aunt often sends me lists of quotes to live my life by and I love reading them all through. I think it's wonderful that you've collected these ones all together. XX
