Weekend Update: Halloweekend 2017

Happy Halloween! I realized I had just enough spooky activity over the past week to warrant a full post.

My "Halloweekend" actually started last Wednesday, with Code Boo! I just want everyone reading this very self-absorbed blog to know that I am also on the Giving Back team at work. Code Boo is the haunted house we put on every year at a local community center, for kids in the neighborhood. This year marked #10YearsofBoo (and my 4th year participating!) Our theme was Bad Dreams, and that's our crew up on the left! I am never scary (on the contrary, I've had middle schoolers ask me for my phone number), and this year I was in more of an "establishing role" as the little girl having all the bad dreams, right at the entrance. Code Boo is one of my favorite seasonal activities every year, mostly because it's pretty impressive how this crew turns an old musty gym into a legit haunted house! I've never shared about it much on the blog, but ok fine, here's a video of this year's (watch at your own risk!)

Friday night was our annual company Talent Night (I realize this isn't Halloween related, but it ended up being festive because of the timing.) My filler karaoke gag turned into a full-blown performance (I was kinda mortified to be sharing the stage with actually talented musicians/singers) but you know, it was fun, and a great continuation of #yearofBritney and great START to #Britneyweek (I am going to see Britney Spears in Vegas on Friday !!!!!) I posted a clip to my Insta and chose the most dramatic screen grab, you're welcome.

Finally, to round out what was truly the best Halloween in recent memory, on Saturday night I went to an amazing "video game" themed party. I am dressed up as Little Mac from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Not my best work, but I have to say, video games are not something I am into at ALL! I did grow up watching my older brothers play Punch-Out on the original Nintendo. My friend Kyle was ALSO Little Mac (I know, what are the chances) but from Punch-Out after Nintendo lost their license to use Mike Tyson (green shorts vs. blue shorts, I did a lot of research.) I finished up the night out at a dance party with assorted friends, it was a very late and very fun night.

How did y'all celebrate Halloween this year?? I would love to hear!

I've been having a bit of a existential style crisis lately. I've really been struggling to get dressed, and constantly feel torn between the things I *want* to wear, and the things that I know will look stylish/photograph nicely for this blog. Mostly, I just want to find a way to still wear the pieces I love (--> colors) in a way that is still on trend. Any advice is much appreciated!

This outfit felt like a triumph, because I got dressed and totally felt like ME (well, me, but still cool.) I just want to wear goofy graphic tees (forever!) and shoes that don't really match my outfit, and quirky accessories, and pins that remind me of fun places/people I love.

And this is *actually* my favorite shirt. Not only is it huge and so comfy (I live it in for days at a time), I stole it from my little brother who I'm obsessed with, and, I actually really love Scooby Doo! Who wouldn't want to drive around in a hippie bus solving mysteries with their best friends? Plus I am so into theme-y/seasonal looks, and I thought this would be perfect for right now. Aren't the shadows so cool/moody looking?

And speaking of seasonal, on this afternoon, Miles bravely walked around ~the Gulch~ with me, and boy was it spooky (see: New Nashville.) I do need to go back and rescue those velvet shoes. Jinkies!

This has been the Monday-est Monday of all time, but it was also the best Halloweekend in recent memory. Feels like a fair trade-off? More on this weekend, later, maybe.

EVERYBODY have a FUN and SAFE Halloween! xox

Katie & Jon, 5.21.17

I'm excited to finally share some photos from my friend Katie's wedding back in May (more about the wedding weekend with my own pictures, right here!)

I realized I've shared photos from every wedding I've been in on my blog, which may feel a little weird? But you know, even though I'm not the one getting married, these weddings are important days for me, too! I consider it such an honor to be a bridesmaid, and every wedding I've been in has been for a very dear friend, or sister, and really friends that feel like sisters. Also, yeah I want to brag on my beautiful friends and the photos are always amazing. Just wanted to clear that up.

Favorite things about this wedding: uh, everything about the ranch (that California backdrop!), the bridemaid ensembles, Katie's sweet dad who I love officiating, that giant tree (!), both Katie & Jon crying through the ceremony, those bouquets (!), making the "NorCal/oldies/dance party" playlist for the reception, that Jon has his arm around ME in one of the photos below hahaha

I wrote more about my friendship with Katie in my brief (lol it's not) recap of the weekend back in May, but in a sentence: Katie is the kind of friend that will cry if you're crying, that will insist on taking you out to lunch the day before HER wedding, the kind of friend that will wake up early to go to the airport to send you off to college with muffins that she made.

OH- and today is actually Katie's birthday, so there is extra reason to celebrate her! Happy Birthday to my dearest darlingest Kate "Firstie" The Great.

Katie and Jon, I love you guys and I'm excited for you! Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day!

"New Nashville" is a term that has gotten a really bad rap. New Nashville is responsible for constant construction, pedal taverns, rap-country, bro country, TRAFFIC, & irreverent hipsters. I hear this phrase like once a week as an explanation for something, "that's New Nashville for ya", usually paired with an eye roll.

Though it gets blamed for a lot of things that was totally the aesthetic behind this look!

I don't really consider myself New Nashville (I am decidedly not hip, cool, or Southern you guys!) and though elements of it can definitely be irritating, I hate to say it's these same things that also make Nashville a really amazing city to live in. I don't think I even mentioned that I hit my 8 year anniversary of living here this past August! I love California and always miss the Bay Area, but I'm more confident than ever that Nashville is exactly where I'm supposed to be, right now.

I actually found this kerchief during what turned out to be a very New Nashville day (and now I'll stop using the term), at still my favorite vintage shop in town, Local Honey (Belmont.) Bandanas are of course, sohotrightnow, but I was totally smitten with this one- those tiny boots! Those horseshoes! So Nashville!

I also jumped at the chance to shoot this on our pedestrian bridge downtown with Miles- a landmark, with one of the best views of the city skyline, that I run over from my office any chance I get. It's a spot that shouldn't be missed if you're in town! Also don't skip over Local Honey because I always manage to find a hidden vintage gem there.

I am absolutely out of my mind this week with activity- TONIGHT is the big volunteer haunted house that we put on a local community center every year! I have been living in that musty gym since Saturday and we are ready!! Seriously- the things that are in my brain and then instantly forgotten right now are out of control. Friday kicks off Halloweekend with our company Talent Night, someone I know is performing Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman karaoke...

On a separate but related note- anyone have a great idea for a video game themed costume? HELP

October Boxycharm Review

I'm no stranger to subscription boxes- remember when I was subscribed to ipsy AND Birchbox for a while and would review them both every month?? Well I took some time off...but I'm back on the wagon! You've probably noticed that my beauty obsession pendulum has recently swung all the way to "hoarder"; that plus my boss' persuasive tactics convinced me to sign up for Boxycharm.

Boxycharm is nothing revolutionary- about $20/month (depending on how many months you pay for up front) for beauty, hair, and skincare products. Really the thing that sets Boxycharm apart in the world of subs is that the products are always FULL-SIZED. Which is actually a big deal, considering you'd cover the price of the box with the cost of one item, easy! It really pays for itself, if you're buying makeup? Idk. That logic is not ironclad.

Anyway- don't take my word for it. Sign up for Boxycharm and everybody wins!

Priya the Blog, Nashville beauty blog, Boxycharm, subscription service, Boxycharm October 2017 review, Becca Cosmetics Prosecco Pop highlighter, Tarte Lip Paint, Jonteblu lip liner, dr. brandt scrub, NCLA nail kit

Special thanks to my pal Jared for snapping the top two photos!

+ Jonteblu Lip Liner Pencil in Brown Sugar | Retail: $5
This is, by all accounts, a decent lip liner but I just don't know because I am a baby that never wears liner!! I did wear it as a base for the lip paint (which paired nicely, I guess that was intentional, which is cool.) This felt/looked similar to my NYX Suede Liner in Soft-Spoken, which is a solid review in my book!

+ Tarte Tarteist Matte Lip Paint in Homeslice | Retail: $20
A new lip color, ye-yeah! I was excited to get this because matte liquid lipstick is my jam and Tarte makes great stuff. This went on feeling like actual paint, but the trade-off is that it really lasted through the day, and coffee, salad, etc. I only had to re-apply in the late afternoon! This shade is a described as a "peachy nude", which I'd say is accurate. I don't own any liquid lipsticks in this color, so I was happy to receive it!

+ dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion | Retail: $58
I was familiar with dr. brandt products from Birchbox, I've even tried this exact product before. Honestly the most impressive part about this scrub to me is that a full size is $58?! That's an expensive product. I DO enjoy using this scrub but can't say I've noticed any immediate benefits.

+ NCLA Tool Kit | Retail: $18
This was just meh to me. I suppose it's handy, but I would have much rather received nail polish or something. I stuck it straight into my travel toiletry bag, where I'm sure it will save the day at some point.

+ Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Highlighter in Prosecco Pop | Retail: $38
So this box is worth it to me for this product alone! I was so so excited about this! I was gifted this same highlighter in Champagne Pop a couple years ago, and it is TRULY the best highlighter. Prosecco is more warm gold than the Champagne light gold/peach, and absolutely gorgeous.

COST ME: $20
TOTAL VALUE: $139 !!

I even swatched them for you! Did I do this right? (Top to bottom: liner, lip paint, highlighter, scrub.)

Overall, SUPER impressed by how much this box was worth (like, how do they do that??), and fairly pleased with the selection of items as well. I'm not super into skin care/scrubs or I might have been more jazzed.

I've already paid for 3 months up front, but after that, we'll see. I am aware that I don't NEED anything (and have wayyy too much already), but it sure is fun to get.

Any other Boxycharm subscribers out there? Or another subscription service that I need to know about?? (Just kidding please keep them away from me.)

#BOOtd

Hellloooo! Here with a little Festive Friday 'Fit for you!

It has taken me until this WEEK to make it to a pumpkin patch- but not for lack of trying! The weather has been mostly incredible, but I've gotten rained out twice, and the other time was just toddler-ed out/no pets allowed. I tweeted this earlier but pumpkins in general might be as basic as you can get, but if you don't think tiny pumpkins are cute, you don't have a soul. Right?!

For the first time I think ever on this blog- this outfit is comprised of entirely new stuff! Woohoo! I can talk about all of it, foreverrr (that's what this blog is about), but, high points: give me all the puff ball earrings forever and ever amen. Aren't these little sunglasses cute and ridiculous, too? If you're looking for accessories that are just FUN and a little zany, I love ban.do so much (earrings are from Zara but ban.do has puff balls + MORE [like, I need those hot sauce earrings.])

And finally- the booties! If these look familiar to you, it might be because I have them in navy. It could also be because they are Rag & Bone and the absolute shit. My sister lent/gave me the navy pair, and in my never-ending quest to find the perfect pair of black booties (no seriously a harrowing LOL quest) I just decided to go for it. And Shop Bop had a sale! I will probably never shut up about them and I promise you'll see them a lot more because I've been wearing them non-stop! I mean, I have to, I can't afford to buy any other shoes teehee (I did end up treating myself recently. Which...I might write about at some point :) )

I am allll about a half-tuck- it keeps a look flattering without being too stuffy or buttoned up. But it can be so difficult with a bulky sweater! I feel like this adds about 15 pounds on me (not to mention, lumps.) Any tips on making this work?? I even cut side slits on this sweater on my way out the door that morning (with scissors- sorry Mom!)

Also sorry that every single picture in this post is a different shade. Never claimed to be a photographer. Bye!

Umm, Wednesday? Not sure exactly how that happened! There's just been a lot going on- I've had a super busy work week so far, which means I've stayed as chill as possible otherwise. Oh but I did make time to get some pumpkins, obviously.

Let's talk about this pin!? I always want everything that ban.do makes, but I saw this pin (and immediately thought of this Lonely Island song) and had to have it. It's perfect! I really do like sports, by the way, and I don't care who knows! I also collect pins and it's getting out of control.

A skirt + trainers can very quickly go into 80's secretary territory, but I think this turned out ok!

Overall I think the pin tied this girly/sporty outfit with a bow- Superga trainers I've been living in, simple gray crewneck sweatshirt that everyone needs, orange pleated skirt out of retirement in my closet (there are surprisingly a lot of similar options available right now so I guess it's still in style {one / two / three}), and yes it was brisk enough to need a jacket on this day! OMGFALL

Tonight I'm going to see one of my favorite bands (since high school!), Sherwood. Here's a playlist of their very best (imho.) I hope you're having a great week!

| blouse: Forever 21 via Carina {similar} | lip: NYX Butter Lipstick in Little Susie  | boyfriend jeans: Gap Factory {similar} | clogs: Swedish Hasbeens {same in tan} |

I’m putting the finishing touches on my 10 Essential Shoes post (and I have GOT to work on that title. Is that grammar terrible orr..?) and it will come as a surprise to no one that clogs are coming in hot as #1. Should I rebrand again to The Clog Blog? Blog de Clogs? Blog ‘o Clogs? All working titles.

This !pink! pair was all over my blog this Summer, but I think these pictures were from the first time I wore them? The Swedish Hasbeen site was having a fantastic sale, and my sister texted me about it (always looking out for her little sis!) Naturally I had a existential crisis about how I really should be buying a black/brown/tan pair, but really wanted a pink pair. What’s that about, anyway? Can’t any color be a neutral color if you just go for it?

Spoiler alert: I totally went for the pink clogs and I have no regrets (this being the second time that this has happened with a pink pair of shoes) there’s a lesson in there for me, and for everyone: life is short. And these clogs are the f-ing business.

And this outfit was definitely a warm up, see how I was like, subtle blouse? Check. Oft-neglected during the Summer boyfriend jeans? Check. But by the time I wore these on my 26th birthday, I was like gingham and clogs hellllll yeah.

This is actually the last set of photos by Adriane from earlier this year I still hadn't posted (just in time for her to be back from maternity leave on Monday ;)

Is this the least possible theme-y outfit I could have posted on Friday October 13th? Whoops! I did FINALLY come up with the perfect Halloween name on Twitter (with a lot of help, halfway through the month...) Happy Spooky Friday y'all!
