Spring has sprung! These gorgeous trees bloomed what felt like overnight a few weeks ago, and I could NOT get over it! I also immediately wanted to plan the girliest outfit post of all time, with a pink blossomed tree as the backdrop.

I totally get that street style/model-off-duty/athleisure is KING right now, and truthfully, I find myself embracing that aesthetic more and more, and really enjoying it. At the same time, I will never get tired of bright colors, feminine details, and floral prints. This LOFT dress is really the best of both worlds, because it's a millennial pink blouson sleeve sweatshirt dress! I mean, how many words can you use to describe one dress, right? I'm obsessed!

This dress is unfortunately sold out (I seriously stalked it online and ordered as soon as one random XS came back in stock) buuuttt I have rounded up some (they are so many!) similar options for you:

In a very extra move I am wearing three different lip colors in this post: a live-in-my-wallet tube of Maybelline Baby Lips, NYX Butter Lipstick in Ladyfingers (can't find this shade anymore but the formula is great!) and ColourPop Ultra Glossy Gloss in Aquarius (when I first received this I thought it was too light/nude for me, but it's grown on me!)

These dreamy Rifle Paper Co. + Keds that I will be wearing all Easter weekend are from a couple years ago BUT they have restocked before, & currently have so many great options! I could totally get behind a pair of floral high-tops (usually I stay away from this style because my legs are so short, but these are too pretty!) or slip-ons or the PALM print?! I'm really having to hold back from ordering another pair.

I hope you all are enjoying the magic of Springtime so far! I'm excited to head to Atlanta after work for the holiday. Have an amazing Easter, Passover, or anything else weekend :)

March Boxycharm Review

It's Boxycharm day!! The theme for this month was "Bae-cation" (cute) and the bright, fun picks totally went along with that.

In case you haven't heard - I just can't quit Boxycharm, the subscription service that sends you 4-5 (or...9) full-sized products a month for $20! If you're on the fence, like I always say, typically the retail value of ONE product covers this entire price of the box. And! There's no more waiting list! Check out all my past Boxycharm reviews, here.

The spoils from this box:
Priya the Blog, Nashville beauty blog, Nashville beauty blogger, Boxycharm, Boxycharm review, Boxycharm March review, subscription service review, beauty review, PUR x Boxycharm Eyeshadow palette, The Vintage Cosmetic Company Smokey Eye Makeup Brush Set, Pretty Vulgar Make Blush Powder Blush in Prim Vixen, South Mane Beauty Revitalizing Under Eye Gels, Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara,
PÜR x Boxycharm Eyeshadow Palette | retail value: $36
This eyeshadow palette is beautiful just to look at, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how easy it's been to create some super trendy eye lewks with it. So far I've done a peachy-toned smokey eye, which is like, the thing right now I think, and even dipped into that bright fuchsia. I tried out the shade "Alliance" yesterday which is an shimmery olive greenish-gold that is SO pretty and unusual. I think this will be my go-to palette this Spring and Summer! Bonus- it has a mirror!

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Smokey Eye Makeup Brush Set | retail value: $21.76
I love it when Boxycharm sends me products and their corresponding brushes! This little brush set includes a flat shadow brush, an angled crease brush, and a smokey under-eye brush. My favorite has to be the angled crease brush - it's been awesome for playing with all those fun matte shades in the palette! Also the packaging/branding of this company is adorable.

Pretty Vulgar Make Blush Powder Blush in Prim Vixen | retail value: $26
I'm not afraid of a bright blush, but this one has ZERO chill. It is literally hot pink. I think the alternate color people received was a dusty rose (similar to the Wet n Wild blush in Mellow Wine, that I looove), which sounds a lot more wearable. This has to be applied with a VERY light hand, I've messed it up several times! I don't see myself using this very much.

South Mane Beauty Revitalizing Under Eye Gels | retail value: $9 (for 3 pack)
Products like this (and in the past, these lip masks, etc.) are always fun to receive and try out, but I can't say I ever really notice a benefit. These under eye masks are supposed to reduce puffiness, dark circles, and moisturize. I tried them out with my boyfriend last night. He is very into skin care (and has the most beautiful skin of any man I've ever met) SO I was very interested to hear his take. He said, "Well, when I took them off, they looked like my kidneys? I felt refreshed and like the skin under my eyes was less tight." My under eyes felt moisturized this morning, but otherwise, I don't think they did much. Still, like I said, it's always fun to try something new.

+ Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara | retail value: $20
This mascara boasts some stats that are a bit eye-roll inducing (200% thicker lashes in one coat! 314% increase in lash curl!) but I do actually really like it. When you're rushing out the door (me, always) nothing is worse than a mascara that takes several coats and minutes to build up. This mascara makes my lashes look much thicker after just one coat! Because it's so thickening, it can also get clumpy pretty fast, but otherwise, I'm a big fan! Plus who even knew Butter London made mascara?

TOTAL VALUE: $112.76!!

I think overall, this is one of the best Boxycharms I've received so far. Check out my past reviews, here! Let me know if you got something really good in the mail this month!!

I did want to share at least one actual outfit post from my recent trip to Mexico City. If you want to hear all the reasons I am super hyped on Mexico City and it needs to be your next vacation, check out my post here!

I wore this on Saturday, our first full day in Mexico city, packed with a street art tour, lunch, lots of exploring, a life-changing nap, and eventually dinner at Pujols (the coolest and nicest restaurant I've ever been to, it felt like having dinner in someone's ultramodern house. We did an incredible taco tasting menu. Last week in SF my sister made me watch the episode of Chef's Table about Pujols, which made me even more of a fan!!)

I've said this several times, but I am all about a day dress; one of my closet essentials at all times, but especially when I'm packing for a trip! It's one piece you can throw on that instantly creates an outfit, less time thinking about what you're wearing --> more time exploring. Plus I find them to be literally easy breezy if you're walking and sweating, etc. This one has a cut-out in the back and low-cut arm holes, so I wore a bralette and was SO comfy!

Other travel essentials:
+ Comfy, cool, breathable and machine washable (!) trainers, like my Nike Juvenates.
+ Fun sunglasses, because I hate packing accessories when I travel, so this is just about it.
+ A cross-body purse, the smaller the better, so you can be light and hands free. Just be mindful and keep it front facing, because nothing ruins a vacation like getting robbed.

The street art tour ended up being the only really touristy thing we did, and it was AWESOME! The one we did was with Street Art Chilango, and I really can't recommend it enough. It was such a great way to walk around and see the city, and who doesn't love stumbling upon beautiful murals and hearing the story behind them? I was honestly so surprised by the art scene in Mexico City - several murals we saw had been done by artists that had traveled) or moved from Belgium and France, to name a few!

Here are a few of the murals we saw during the tour:

Packing List: Mardi Gras

As soon as I confirmed my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras (about a month ago, whoops) I hopped online to search for a packing guide. SURELY a blogger had gone before me to do the work and help a sister out, right? WRONG! I couldn’t find anything (note- if you know of one, please share!) As this was my first time going to Mardi Gras, and one of my personal mottos is Never a Girl Scout but always prepared, I took it upon myself to create the perfect Packing List for a Mardi Gras weekend.

I hope this is helpful to those of you planning for your first Mardi Gras experience, or even your 10th (but most stylish, for sure ;) !

The Trip:
+ Destination | New Orleans, Louisiana
+ Duration | Friday, February 9th - Monday February 12th
+ Forecast | highs in the mid-60s, lows in the high-40s, mostly overcast with some showers
+ Notable activities | MARDI GRAS! Parades, lots of walking, a house party, brunch, lunch, and dinner out.
+ Themes to consider | the official Carnival colors: purple, gold, and green
Priya the Blog, Nashville lifestyle blog, Nashville lifestyle blogger, Nashville fashion blog, Packing List for Mardi Gras, What to pack for Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras weekend, Mardi Gras, New Orleans packing list, New Orleans Louisiana, travel, packing list, packing guide, packing guide for Mardi Gras weekend, what to pack for Mardi Gras
The List:
Three t-shirts & a sweatshirt | Cropped hoodie for a cool travel outfit & nothing else, my beloved giant tie-dye Lagunitas t-shirt for sleep/lounging, a statement for a parade day, & a black tee for the way home.
+ Three pairs of pants | My gold Topshop pants are, in my mind, the pièce de résistance of this entire packing list. They were PERFECT. My donut leggings were just for sleeping and hanging out after too many beignets, don’t worry. I wore my black Girlfriend Collective leggings for travel both ways!
Two dresses, one jumpsuit | I was SO excited to pack this striped Marimekko dress that I’m convinced was designed for Mardi Gras. The velvet dress was a back-up, in case I wasn’t feeling one of my other parade outfits. I threw the jumpsuit in last minute but didn’t need it.
+ Two pairs of shoes, cross-body purse, sunglasses | Really the only thing to note here is to pack comfy shoes that you can THROW AWAY without any regrets, because they will get disgusting (Mardi Gras Grime included in this photo so you can see what I mean.) Oh, and a cross-body purse because you’ll need to be hands free to catch all the float goodies!
+ Two jackets | (forgot to get pics...) my green utility jacket & a tan rain coat, both of which I barely wore.
+ Also not pictured | toiletries, make-up, undergarments.

And the best part of going to Mardi Gras is that you do NOT need to pack any accessories - you will catch more than enough, trust me.

Here's a lil widget where you can shop similar items:

The Outfits:
+ Outfit #1 | This was from our big Mardi Gras Saturday that started with a parade at 11am, & ended at about the same time that night; with a couple more parades, brunch, a house party, the French Quarter, Café du Monde, & jambalaya in between. I was so excited to wear this dress (I got several compliments on it too!) and stayed super comfortable all day. I think I even remarked that I’m so used to wearing uncomfortable shoes that walking all day in my Jack Purcells was a dream. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge fan of dresses for travel – one piece and bam you’re dressed! Also can you TELL how muggy it was – that ponytail, girrrrl.

+ Outfit #2 | I wore this on day two, that started out a bit slower…but still with a local parade, more hanging out and walking around, and an eventual pig roast. I’d only ever worn these gold pants (one of my favorite items in my closet, here’s the story of how I got them) dressed up with a crop top and heels for a night out, so it was fun to dress them down. Pairing them with trainers and a t-shirt felt very on trend, and I loved being able to make v relevant political statement with my t-shirt (designed by my talented friend Jake at WHAT. Creative Group.) I caught this mask off a float, isn’t it great?

+ Outfit #3 | This was my work from home/drive home outfit. I rarely travel without black leggings of some kind, they are so multipurpose; comfy for long trips, sleeping, and even a casual outfit in a pinch. I also rarely travel without these Nikes, they are light, packable, machine washable, comfy, and cool. I mentioned it got super cold this day, but otherwise this outfit did the job.

The Reflection:
+ Did I like what I wore? | Maybe more than any other trip- i LOVED it. Theme-y outfits are so my jam!
+ Did I feel comfy/prepared? | Yes! I was mostly sweaty, except for the last day when the temp dropped.
+ Did "stuff ruin my trip"? | Nope. This was a lean, mean, packing list, with only outfits I loved wearing!

I hope you found this Mardi Gras packing list interesting and maybe a little helpful!

If you’re a ragin’ Cajun expert, let me know what I should have packed. I would love to hear about your Mardi Gras experience if you have one! Oh, and I love reading packing lists, so feel free to share any with me below!

March Small Goals

Priya the Blog, Nashville lifestyle blog, March Small Goals, Nashville blogger, small goals, monthly goals
Happy small goals day! I'll say this quietly, just in case, but it really feels like Spring has sprung in Nashville. I can feel my spirits soaring with the sunny days, and I just feel ready to put myself out there AND absolutely crush some small goals.

But first, here's how I did on my goals for last month:

1. Take my marathon training up a notch | DONE!
[Context: I am training for the Nashville marathon on 4/28.] On Sunday I did my longest run yet- 15 miles! I am actually really encouraged by how well training is going. The weather has been decent, I'm running 3x a week, and feeling good. March is a key month for training, so I'm hoping to stay inspired and injury free!

2. Get new trainers | DONE!
This is kinda 1b. My trainers needed replacing and plenty of time to be broken in before the race! I got (my first ever!) pair of Brooks at Nordstrom Rack (so random- this is a GREAT place to buy running shoes!)

3. Haircut | DONE!
I'm counting this as done because my stylist could only take me this Friday. I can NOT wait. My hair has been driving me nuts - I'm not planning to chop it all off, (yet!) but definitely take a few inches and a LOT of weight out (you would not believe my ponytail situation when I run right now.)

4. Plan my Sabbatical | DONE!
My goal was to at least have major flights booked and a "skeleton" of my plans outlined. I didn't intentionally ignore everyone when they commented asking where I was going on my last small goals post, but now is a good time to share! I am doing what I'm calling "the Pappu special" (hashtag still in the works, let me know if you have ideas): spending two weeks in India, about a week in Finland, and the remaining 10ish days in California. Really excited about all of it, but especially India, where I haven't been since I was 12! I still have lots to plan and I'll keep you updated!

5. Clean my car | DONE!
I was literally on my way to the car wash/vaccuum when I realized a) my car exterior was decent looking b) it's been raining non-stop and c) I'd really rather spend my $$ on new stuff for my house right now. I did clean out the myriad of junk that's been rolling around in my backseat post-move and shake out my floor mats. So I'm giving myself this one.

And here are my goals for this month:

1. Decorate my living room |
My end goal is to have my place pretty much together by the time Amir and Carina come for the race next month; but I do want to have my living room somewhat done before my mom visits later this month! You know, so we have a couch to sit on. I'm off to a good start because I ordered my couch and area rug and they are arriving this week! I can't wait to have this room cozy and put together.

2. Do my taxes |
Not exciting, totally necessary.

3. Plan a special weekend with my Mom |
I think the beauty in having a mom weekend is that she is perfectly happy just spending time with you, and you don't have to go overboard with flashy activities, BUT I do want to plan at least a couple dinner reservations and something special (facials? Painting pottery? A hike and picnic?)

4. Write some kind of quarterly favorites post |
I've mentioned already that I miss blogging about the music/movies/podcasts/books I'm consuming and I recently decided somewhat of a quarterly round up is a great installment. Stay tuned for this at the end of the month!

5. Make 4 smoothies |
I've had this dream of being a girl who shows up to work with a fresh fruit/veggie smoothie that she just blended up that morning - and my boyfriend very kindly gifted me a NutriBullet as a housewarming present (he is rapidly earning a reputation as just an anonymous gifthorse, ha, BUT I promise I love him for other reasons & will blog about him for real, eventually!) Anyway! I'm gonna make some smoothies, that's the goal.

6. A surprise one that I can't share yet |
I KNOW this sounds like a fake one but I promise it isn't. This is a surprise that may or may not happen for someone that definitely reads this blog and I'll keep you posted if it works out!

Let me know what you accomplished in February or are working on in March & we can cheer each other on!

Linking up with Nicole at Feel Good Dress Better.

Weekend Update: Mexico City

Last week I met my sister in Mexico City for a long weekend, & I feel like I've been talking about it non-stop, because I'm OBSESSED. I am now on a mission to get everyone I know to go to Mexico City, because I'm convinced it's the perfect travel destination. Here's why:

+ It's easy and affordable to get to. Even coming from Nashville, which is historically not cheap or handy to fly out of. It was a quick jog to Atlanta (40 min) and then a few hours on to CDMX on the way down, and bonus - international flight - so Delta hooked it up with a cheese plate! I flew back using Southwest points so my travel was super cheap, but any way you slice it, it's a huge city with plenty of affordable routes.
+ But you'll feel like you're in Europe. I'm not at the point where I'm taking long weekend trips to Europe (YET) but boy is there some European charm to be found in Mexico City. It's basically as close as you can get without having to cross the seas. I love a local weekend away, but there is something extra special about going out of the country - just for a few days.
+ You can live like una reina! This is the nice way of saying that Mexico City is affordable af. I'm just a regular 26 year old that's usually ballin' on a budget, but last weekend, I was just ballin'.
+ You don't have to compete with other tourists. I felt very much like I was just stepping into a city where everybody was going about their daily lives, which i LOVED. Even in the historic downtown areas ^ I never felt swarmed by tourists. We stayed in the neighborhood of Condesa which was the perfect blend of quiet and local with a bustling nightlife.
+ The plants, alone. I could not get over the flowers ^ and greenery, everywhere! It was basically like being in a greenhouse the entire time. Most main streets have a garden/park thing running through the middle that you can walk through (that's where that sculpture/fountain is above.) I just couldn't get over it!
+ Spanish is easier to speak than French. At least for me! I won't say I speak Spanish, but my high school Spanish was enough to get me by in Ubers, restaurants, bars, etc.
+ The food. Duh. I'm sure you could guess that the street food selection is lit, and not just street tacos - I saw street fresh squeezed juice, street churros, all kinds of stuff! But Mexico City is also a tremendous destination for foodies! We ate at what was probably the nicest place I've ever been to, Pujols, which felt like having dinner at someone's fancy, ultra-modern house. My favorite meal of the entire trip was brunch at Lardo (last pic above) which was gorgeous and hip with a very kind, unpretentious staff.
+ It's just a really cool city. I was so pleasantly surprised by how progressive, warm, GREEN, easy, and colorful (we did this street art tour that I would completely recommend!) everything was! Though I had an inkling it would be hip, because I swear for every cool artist on Spotify, Mexico City holds the #1 spot for "Where people listen."

Have you ever been to Mexico City? What's the coolest, under-the radar-place you've ever been? Always planning my next adventure!

Y'all, this WEEK. I think I definitely just did five days of work in four days. Cheers to the freakin' weekend.
