Weekend Update: Walking in Memphis (again!)

Priya the Blog, Nashville travel blog, Nashville travel blogger, Memphis Tennessee, Tennessee roadtrip, weekend in Memphis, Memphis guide, Memphis Loves Everyone mural, Wiseacre Brewing Company, what to do in Memphis
A bit of a delayed weekend update - last weekend Art and I headed to Memphis just to hang with MEREDITH for a bit! Meredith has been around since the early days of this blog (seriously one of my first posts I think was going to Memphis with her for the weekend) and is getting married (!) to Steven this Summer! We were so glad to catch Steven on Friday night & Saturday for breakfast in between his travels. Their wedding is going to be legendary and I cannot WAIT to celebrate with them!

Also I hadn't been to Memphis since 2015 and I had forgotten how much I absolutely love it! If you're in Nashville or anywhere close...you need to go! Tennessee has some great cities, y'all.

We spent a dreamy Saturday just kinda strolling around and hitting up the Memphis staples: Muddy's Bakery, Central BBQ, Yay Coffee, Slider Inn (we didn't eat at ALL of these places). I joked that everywhere we went we saw Dith's friends that we were going there to see, as well as friends that just happened to be there #missmemphis, seriously. I finally got to go to Wiseacre and it was the best (the Ananda IPA is one of my favorite "local" beers!) Did Art & I get matching t-shirts? Maybe.

Saturday night we stopped by The Liquor Store (obsessed- check it out, it's not what it sounds like) Bardog Tavern for a traditional "Memphis breakfast shot", Belle Tavern for the most beautiful charcuterie and beyond plate, and finally, our night ended at Raiford's Disco because: you just have to. There is no other place on earth quite like it.

Love Memphis, love Meredith & Steven, can't wait to go back!!

Top o' the Monday to ya! We are very much in the throws of Spring in Nashville right now, last week ended up being so beautiful (seriously I was like...why am I in such a good mood all of a sudden?) but then it was back to rain and even some snow this weekend!

Throwing it back to sunnier early Spring days with this quintessentially "Spring" outfit, and more blooming trees that I can't ever get enough of!

I don't have a lot to say about this look (honestly I just wanted to wear something that would go with these trees as the backdrop), except: new clogs in action, I wear each of my floppy hats twice/year like clockwork, and I've had this skirt for years and will probably never get rid of it because it's so pretty!

Behind the scenes of Priya the Blog right now - I spent last week at our big annual conference, and got to emcee one of stages again which is the BEST job ever. By the end of the week, I felt naked without a mic in my hand (also a contributing factor - singing I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues one night at karaoke.) I had an excellent weekend where I got so much done, went to the best wedding shower I've ever attended, snuggled with the dog that made me believe in dogs, (omg I haven't even talked about "my dog" on this blog yet!!!!!!!) AND I had a great run for the first time in ages.

The Nashville marathon is in two weeks, and honestly, training for it has been such a roller coaster that has really been stressing me out. Yesterday I ran the first half of the course, and the biggest win for me was just actually enjoying it. Sundar, Amir, and Carina are coming to town for the race, so I'm not sure exactly what's going to happen, but at this point I'm like, hopefully I PR, but either way, I can't wait to hang with them.

Also! I kicked off a little 15 item/15 day workweek capsule today (my first attempt at a capsule project, ever!) You can follow along on Twitter where I'll be posting daily outfits, (also shared a picture of everything in my capsule, it's pretty fun!) and hopefully I can get some ~official~ pics to share on the blog as well. More to come, but I am actually pretty excited about it.

Ok let me know what's happening behind the scenes with you! Thanks for reading.

Seen / Heard / Worn / Etc. #1

I just can't not have this type of series going on my blog, you know? 2017 series / 2016 Current State
Priya the Blog, Nashville lifestyle blog, Nashville lifestyle blogger, rose gold Nutribullet, Channa Masala, Wayfair rug, music reviews, books, movies reviews, TV, I Tonya, Twin Peaks, Queer Eye, shopping, black Swedish Hasbeens, Madewell rainbow dress, Zara knit crop top, Forever21 two piece sets, Vance Joy, Kacey Musgraves, Camila Cabello, Weezer, Good Christian Fun
SEEN //
I, Tonya | I have been obsessed with the Kerrigan/Harding story since seeing the ESPN 30 for 30 Price of Gold a few years ago (which is a MUST see!) This is the only movie I've seen in theaters more than once...ever? Honestly it's not a "feel good" film (TW: domestic abuse), but it was a really interesting take on Tonya Harding's story. I thought the acting, score, and style of the film was all fantastic.

Twin Peaks | I've always been intrigued by the "cult-classic" allure that this 90's drama has. With the reboot on Showtime, it seemed like the perfect time to try and discover why exactly people like this show so much. Well, I started watching this in mid-January and I'm (embarrassingly) STILL finishing up the 2nd season! It really starts to drag and get WEIRD (I mean, even by Twin Peaks standards.) I've been promised that it's worth completing. My favorite parts so far have been the neon-salmon lipstick worn by all the female characters, how much Rashida Jones looks like Peggy Lipton, and anything Lucy (the receptionist) says. I would love to hear from you if you're a fan!

Queer Eye | The perfect foil to Twin Peaks. I have to confess I never watched the original, but OMG I have enjoyed the reboot so so SO much. So much that I have cried during nearly every episode. The Fab 5 is changing lives! I would give anything to hang out with Tan France.

+ My reading goal for 2018 is 16 books! Books read so far this year: Life After Life, Yes Please, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Vacationers, In Her Shoes, The Year of Less, The Actor's Life.

HEARD //
+ Nation of Two – Vance Joy | Oh sweet baby Vance. His second album sounds like part two of his first, which is totally fine with me! Why fix what's not broken? Vance Joy makes the most perfect music for a rainy night inside or a long drive in the Fall. Listen to: I'm With You.

+ Camila – Camila Cabello | I was SO excited for the solo debut from Camila, the break-out star of Fifth Harmony (don't @ me.) It surprised me by being more "lovesick" than "hype", but still a great album with her Cuban flair throughout. Listen to: Into It

+ Golden Hour - Kacey Musgraves | I love this album, but you already know that. Listen to: Butterflies.

+ Pacific Daydream - Weezer | Weezer is a band that I have literally listened to for as long as I've listened to music. They are still making albums, and while they sound different, I'm here for it. This album is just a ton of fun. Listen to: Feels Like Summer (your Summer anthem. There you go.)

+ Good Christian Fun | My friend Steph turned me on to this podcast, which is two friends reviewing and discussing Christian pop culture from the 90's and early 2000's aka MY CHILDHOOD, YOU GUYS. I don't think this is the most well-done podcast ever (then again what do I know) BUT the nostalgia alone is totally worth it for me. Some of those CCM songs still bop!
WORN //
+ black Swedish Hasbeens | I realized I didn't love my current pair of black clogs and wasn't really wearing them. Since clogsarelife around here, I ordered a new pair of Swedish Hasbeens! PSA that the actual Swedish Hasbeen website frequently runs pretty good sales, if you're looking for some dream clogs!

+ Zara knit crop top | I could not spend a week in San Francisco without stopping at Zara! I picked up a floral wrap dress (outfit to come) and a knit crop top that I am sooo excited to pair with a bralette and wear all summer long. It's the perfect combination of modern crop top with retro 70's vibes.

Madewell Rainbow dress | I actually squealed when I saw this as part of their Spring collection. My boss gave me the heads up that their Spring color story was everything so I thought well maybe I'll just take a look online...and we ALL know how that ends! I have this same style dress in chambray and absolutely love it. I'll likely wear it at our conference this week!

Forever 21 sets | I've seen the "coordinates" trend popping up everywhere, and it looks so cute and fun for Summer! I ordered a bunch from Forever 21, where I knew I'd find some affordable options. Most excited about this fruit salad number, also picked up a blue polka dot, black stripey, white palm tree and this gorgeous kimono set. I'll keep you posted on what I end up keeping (I still haven't tried these on, actually!)

ETC. //
+ Nutribullet | I have mentioned this recently but I am OBSESSED with my Nutribullet! I've been making smoothies nearly every morning since I got it. It is so easy & convenient to use, it's a great way to get in your fruits & veggies (like, eat carbs for the rest of the day, it's fine), & you can literally throw anything into a smoothie & not mess it up. Plus mine is rose gold and looks pretty dang cute on the counter.

+ Channa Masala | My mom & I cooked a TON when she was in town, & I'm still eating the Channa Masala we whipped up (that I froze in batches, relax!) This is one of my favorite Indian dishes that is super easy to make, & a healthy, delicious (and filling!) option for lunch at work or a quick dinner. Here's a simple recipe that is easy to follow, but I need to share my mom's exact version because it is something special!

+ Wayfair rug | I've been talking a lot about moving into a new place by myself & getting settled. Furnishing & decorating a place is a lot of work (that I am admittedly not great at) BUT I wanted to share my area rug that's in my new living room that I loooove. It set the tone(s) for the whole room - jewel tones! I found it on Wayfair, which has soooo many rug options of all sizes, colors, shapes AND they are all affordable!

Always looking for recommendations - please share the latest greatest thing you read, watched, listened to, or bought!!

Brace yourself for the most theme-y post I've ever done. Have I mentioned lately how much I love themes? I'm talking like theme parties, theme weekends, theme outfits, I love it all! Really, name any organized theme-y activity and I am there with unbridled enthusiasm. Should I stop saying theme-y and say thematic?

So I was nearly giddy when Kacey Musgraves released her new album, Golden Hour, last Friday, which had prompted this promo mural of the album cover to go up in Nashville. Blog providence! Angels singing! I am ALL about the newish direction of this album; I love the vibe, the cover art, all of it!! If you haven't listened already, definitely check it out (it's on Spotify!), I've been listening to it non-stop. (My favorite tracks so far are probably Butterflies and Oh, What a World.

I've been a huge fan of Kacey Musgraves' music for the last few years, but also, talk about a style icon! I'm not sure how she would define her personal style, but I would say something like cowgirl glam? It really couldn't be more fitting in Nashville. I hope I made her proud with my own little spin on cowgirl glam!

My beloved cowboy boots haven't been featured on the blog in a while (remember when I did a remix!), but they're one thing I'll never get rid of. I found mine years ago at the Nashville Flea Market for a total steal! I always recommend the Nashville Flea for boots instead of like, Boot Barn. They'll be perfectly broken in already! And is it just me, or have cowboy boots become really trendy all of a sudden? I mean, they're always in style to some degree in Nashville ;)

April Small Goals

Priya the Blog, Nashville lifestyle blog, Nashville lifestyle blogger, Small Goals April
Hey y'all! How's April treating you so far? I was trying to think of some way to recap last month but...I've got nothing. March was good! Things seem to be really picking up, all around, as the weather warms up, and I am hereee for it! Sometimes small goals can suffer as a result of, you know, life, but overall, I did ok!

Here's a look back at March:

1. Decorate my living room |
I'm not giving myself this one, but I'm getting really really close! I still have a few pieces of furniture to order, but this month I took care of the big stuff: couch, area rug, and a general plan for the room.

2. Do my taxes | DONE!

3. Plan a special weekend with my Mom | DONE!
I had an amazing time with my Mom a few weeks ago. The weather wasn't great, so our activities were somewhat limited, but we did go out to dinner, pot some plants, cook a lot at my house, go to the movies, and snuggle! It was great.

4. Write some kind of quarterly favorites post |
I've written somewhat of an outline for this, but still not quite there.

5. Make 4 smoothies | DONE!
I crushed this goal maybe unlike any goal I've ever shared on this blog. I think I have used my NutriBullet nearly every morning since I tried it for the first time. I am obsessed. I could write a whole blog post about this! It is so so handy to use and I love starting my day with a bunch of fruits + veggies.

6. A surprise one that I can't share yet | DONE!
After the fact I was able to share that I spent a week working out of our San Francisco office AND combined that with surprising my bestie, Steph, at her birthday party! It was such a fun surprise!

And here's what I'm working on in April:

1. Get my house close to done! |
I'm still working on getting completely furnished and organized after moving into a new place in February (context- previously I didn't own ANY furniture except for what was in my bedroom, and now I'm living in a place by myself.) Things are definitely livable, especially after a trip to IKEA this weekend! I still need to: order a few more things for my living room, put stuff up on the walls, and update my bathroom. My goal is to have this done by the last weekend in April when I have sibs in town!

2. Do a capsule project |
I have been in SUCH a rut lately of hating everything in my closet and feeling like I have nothing to wear. Which is ridiculous, of course, because I have more than enough. So it's definitely time for a little capsule project. I'm really hoping this re-inspires me with just how much potential I already have in my closet (and even a small section of it!) What this will look like exactly, I'm not sure, but I will keep you posted. We do have our big conference at work next week, so I will likely start after that.

3. Qualify for the Boston Marathon |
I am putting this out into the universe to establish that this is, officially, the goal, for when I run the Nashville marathon on April 28th (coming up fast!) While this is the goal, I am totally ok with things going either way. I figure, if I qualify, amazing, if I don't, I don't have to train for another marathon! And I'll be honest, I'm at the stage of training where everything hurts all the time and I am OVER it. So, we'll see!

4. Sign up for a new credit card |
I got my first credit card as soon as I got a "real job" after college. My Southwest Rapid Rewards card has been great, and definitely made sense since I'm always flying back and forth to California. After talking it over with my financial advisor/life coach, I'm ready to get a little more out of my cc points/rewards, and upgrade from "baby's first credit card." This is random but if you have a credit card you absolutely love, tell me about it (referral codes welcome!)

5. Adjust my finances |
Feeling very adult with all of my financially-related goals! I have some bills to take care of and recurring payments to set up and adjust, fun stuff!

6. Visit the tailor
This also feels kinda lame to include, but I have a small pile of things that has been accumulating in my trunk and I just need to take them to the tailor already. One way to make sure this gets done is to have the entire world keeping me accountable ;)

If you have small (or big!) goals for April, I would love to hear about them!

Linking up with Nicole at Feel Good Dress Better.
