It's dark, but the light is coming soon / here's to a year that's brand new | MY 2021 GOALS

Title from this post is from this perfect song by my favorite, Andrew McMahon. Totally recommend starting your day with a listen.

Hi! Happy New Year! We have until the end of the month to say it, right? I know we're not completely out of the woods, but I, for one, am so glad that 2020 is behind us and not in front of us! I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about 2021, and strangely, very motivated to tackle some goals. I spent the first Monday morning of the year putting pen to paper, and listing out the goals that had been flittering through my mind.

I have them listed out in a handy spot in my planner, but I also thought it'd be nice to get them out into the universe, and share them on my blog. Whether for accountability, community, or just in another spot to check back in on, today I'm sharing them with you. I'm being vulnerable so please do not come for me! Positive vibes only!

I have them roughly organized by category, & though I do reserve the right to edit throughout the year, I think things are in a pretty final place right now. I've added commentary where I couldn't help myself but if you have questions or want to discuss, hit me up!

WELLNESS |

  • Move my body for 30 min/day: I like being active because it makes me feel good (physically & mentally) & it helps me sleep better, too! My current routines include running and I'm still loving the Peloton App for lifting, HIIT cardio, & guided runs. If I'm not doing an "actual workout", I love taking Piper for a long walk or going on a bike ride with Art.
  • Mini consumption challenges: for example, this month I'm doing Dry January & also taking a break from fast food. Nothing else planned yet, but we'll see. This goal is also purely to experiement with what makes me feel good
  • Skin care at night - do something: I'm not super into skincare, nor do I really know what I'm doing, but by this I mean the bare minimum starts at removing makeup/cleansing & goes up into toner, eye cream, serums, oils, (playing with products I have) depending on how I'm feeling.
  • Wear SPF every single day: slightly embarrassed that this is still a goal
  • Find a GP

PROFESSIONAL (ACTING) |

One day maybe I'll talk about the joys & pains of acting, or rather, trying to, but not today! I'm happy to talk about this if anyone cares but otherwise I'll stay tight-lipped for self-preservation 😁
  • Book my first SAG job!
  • Master the self-tape: I don't know how to quantify this, but I want to feel confident every time I tape, like, "I nailed that!" I also really want to take a course or two.
  • Emotional depth - class: I'm in an acting class! This is the thing I'm really focused on right now, because, surprise! I am extremely emotionally guarded & basically don't allow myself to feel anything! See therapy goal below.
  • Get 10 Callbacks: Somewhat of an arbitrary number that I may adjust, but getting callbacks is the goal!
  • Writing goal: shoot something I wrote: Someday I will really talk about what I'm trying to do here. But in the meantime, I've shifted my goal from "forcing myself to write" to "creating something I am excited about enough to actually shoot" which is the goal behind my writing, anyway.
  • Figure out taxes

PROFESSIONAL (FREELANCE) |

I think I mentioned this last year! But I started doing social media freelance for my friend's business (would love if you checked us out + followed on social) & have since added another client. Who would have thought this is what I'd be doing?
  • Add two new clients
  • Take a social media course

RELATIONSHIPS |

  • Go to couples therapy! Because of the circumstances of our wedding, we didn't do any pre-martial counseling, so this is absolutely something I want to prioritize this year.
  • Find an extra special way to celebrate Art's birthday: Art has a big birthday this year & we had planned to go to the Tour de France 😭we can't do that, but I want to plan something awesome.
  • Always have someone to call: I want to explain this because it seems a little weird. My goal for keeping in touch with family & friends (always hard, always valuable) is to always have someone in mind I want to catch up with. This doesn't mean I'm like "calling someone on the phone every week" but just that when I have the time + emotional energy to talk or FaceTime, I know who is next up on my list (this is calculated using the carousel of time or a special event)
  • Remember every birthday: Simple - doesn't mean a gift or even a call necessarily, just remembering & reaching out to (& celebrating, when possible) the special people in my life on their special day.

EMOTIONAL/PERSONAL/CREATIVE |

(The catch-all for everything else 😊)
  • Read 24 books: I didn't read nearly as much as I wanted to in lockdown (2020 books post to come!) so here's a fresh goal for the new year. Please leave me recommendations! And if you're looking for any, here are my past year's reading lists.
  • Start therapy: I am so excited about this! I am sureee I will talk more about it.
  • NO BUY Makeup - take inventory of what I do have: Whew. This is ambitious. I have so much stuff to use.
  • Don't quit vlogging/blogging - & enjoy it! This goal is as simple as that. I don't have aspirations to hit a certain # of subscribers or make money off my blog, I just want to keep doing it. It feels like an infinity loop to me - if I make it a point to enjoy these things, & only do it in that capacity, I won't quit. If I don't quit, I'll keep doing them only when I enjoy them.
  • More bike adventures: I don't want to quantify this, but anytime Art & I do spend a Saturday or whatever biking around, I always think, "this is the perfect way to spend the day & I need to do it more."
  • Style - find 3 outfit formulas/season that are 1) comfortable on my body 2) make me feel confident 3) feel on trend! I briefly mentioned last year how I was in such a style rut in 2020 (i KNOW I'm not alone) so going forward, to feel excited and inspired about getting dressed again & also just have fun, this is the goal I've come up with! I'm sure I'll be sharing these formulas on my blog so stay tuned.

If you've made any resolutions/goals for 2021, share them with me! If you wrote a blog post, drop the link in the comments, I'd love to check it out. There's something about publishing goals and putting them out into the universe! Let's cheer each other on!

Thank you for stopping by ye old blog and supporting me. I have been blogging since...2012 (almost TEN years? Wow) and so at this point I can't imagine NOT doing it in some capacity. Knowing that people are reading and checking back on me is a big part of what makes it worthwhile, so, THANKS <3

P.S. Adriane took these photos at the Cornelia Fort Airpark - where we got married :)
