Okay first of all, I need to address that it is NOT snowing in Nashville right now. These pictures are from our delightful snow day(s) last month. I could not resist jumping outside and getting some pictures AS it was snowing! I'm just a California girl with simple dreams!

Obviously I have no idea how to actually dress for the snow. I loveee a juxtaposed look though and wanted to make my hiking boots look as girly as possible. Honestly they are real cute as well as super functional. You might recognize these boots from the movie WildThese were my favorite Christmas present from my boyfriend (!)  I would definitely add Happy Glamper to my list of preferred aesthetics (see also Accidentally 80's.) I'm pleasantly surprised by how versatile this coat is! It looks just as chic with rugged hiking boots as it does with pink patent ones

So what is up my dudes ?? I’ve been spending pretty much every spare minute getting organized in my new place! I’m the kind of person that likes to have everything in it’s proper place, immediately, which is impossible when you move, but I’m getting there! I’ve also been crushing some audiobooks as I get unpacked, so that’s been kinda fun. All I really need is wi-fi to make a house a home (am I joking?)

And tomorrow ! I’m meeting my sister in Mexico City for the weekend! We have a dreamy little Airbnb and I am readyyy for sunshine, tacos, sister time, and dusting off my high school Spanish. Catch you on Twitter / Instagram, hasta luego!

February Boxycharm Review

Happy Boxycharm Day!! February's theme was "Galaxy Glow", which seems like a missed opportunity, if you ask me, but I ended up using all of these for a Valentine's Day lewk anyway!

Old News: Boxycharm is the absolute business when it comes to subscription boxes; 5+ full-sized products (quality brands, too!) for $20/month. It's really an insane value, for example, a Cover FX Shimmer Veil ALONE retails at $28!

Here's what I got this month:
Priya the Blog, Nashville beauty blog, February Boxycharm review, Boxycharm review, subscription service, Boxycharm, beauty buzz, beauty, subscription box, Cover FX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst, Naked Cosmetics Holographic Highlighter Palette, Vintage by Jessika Liebskind eyeliner, Crown Brush, Seraphine Botanicals Lip Buffer, beauty,
Here's the thing- I like my Wet n Wild Highlighter Palette a LOT more...and it's $15. This palette gives you a pretty neat spectrum of highlighters, but I found the formula to be somewhat chalky and glittery. I like my powder highlighters to have a really creamy base, if that makes sense.

CoverFX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst | $28
This is the stand-out of the month for me! Products like this kinda frighten me, but I wore this on Valentine's Day all over my lid and it wasn't gloopy and didn't crease. It is SO PRETTY, you guys! You can easily add this into a daily routine, with just a pop on your inner corner (tried that too and loved it!) I recently nearly ordered a very similar product from ColourPop and I'm so glad I didn't!

Vintage by Jessika Liebskind Eyeliner in Jet Black | $21
A black eyeliner pencil is like the equivalent of a little black dress. This pencil goes on so smoothly! I wore it one day with nothing else on my lid, and it really stayed put. The little product guide specifically references a smoky eye, and they weren't kidding- this eyeliner smokes SO easily, I couldn't believe it! Like, even my swatch below is effortlessly smoky.

Crown Brush Pro Brush Trio | $30
I'll rank these from ehh to excellent! The "small brush" (I think that's actually what it's called) is too small for blending concealer all over your face, but totally for spot concealing. The medium brush is similar to my all time favorite contouring brush by RealTechniques, and I liked it! I used it first for blending out a contour stick, which was not smart on my part, but it worked really well for a powder contour. I might give this to my sister because I really don't need two brushes that are so similar. I *love* the large brush, and it's perfect for setting your face! I didn't have a setting brush and recently purchased one, which further proves I need to stop buying make-up outside of Boxycharm because the Boxy god always hears my prayers!

Seraphine Botanicals Sugar + Lemon Moisturizing Lip Buffer | $24
The smell, purpose, and packaging (the tube comes in a bigger paper tube) is all spot on, but overall I still prefer my e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator stick, because this is kinda messy. I guess you're supposed to put it on and then wipe it off? I WILL say this is a nice deviation from a matte liquid lipstick.

TOTAL VALUE: $143 !
Priya the Blog, Nashville beauty blog, February Boxycharm review, Boxycharm review, subscription service, Boxycharm, beauty buzz, beauty, subscription box, Cover FX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst, Naked Cosmetics Holographic Highlighter Palette, Vintage by Jessika Liebskind eyeliner, Crown Brush, Seraphine Botanicals Lip Buffer, beauty,
eyeliner, Shimmer Veil, lip exfoliator, highlighters clockwise

Let me know what goodies you received this month or any recent beauty favorites!

Oh hi it's me! Your little 90's Valentine.

Valentine's Day is definitely the funnest holiday to dress for, and I think this is a fun spin on a theme-y outfit: still totally kitschy, but grunged up a bit with my Dr. Marten's and a utility jacket.

Wearing a skater dress is as close as I will ever get to fulfilling my Olympic/I, Tonya dreams. A *fun* fact about me is that I don't even like ice skating, actually, (it's cold! the rink smells! the skates cut into my legs! people are jerks!) but the outfits are definitely the best. And would you believe me if I told you that I could wear a different velvet item every day for about a month? No, seriously.

Adriane and I skipped over to Cafe Roze to take these pictures, which I was so excited about- it is seriously a blogger's dream come true! I really did order a Roze Latte and it really was good (it had rosewater, simple syrup and rose petals in it and smelled incredible!) I've had dinner at Cafe Roze a couple times and would absolutely recommend it if you're in town- everything I've ordered has been delicious. Also I have to take a second to recognize how far I've come as a blogger- from cowering in my backyard to shamelessly taking photos in a functioning restaurant!

I just got back from New Orleans late last night (stay tuned!!!) and I'm definitely feeling those post-Mardi-Gras blues. I'm looking forward to staying in tomorrow night!

I hope your Valentine's Day is full of love, surprises, and heart-shaped candy! xo

This outfit (and the title of this post) coming to you straight outta 1 9 7 8!

My mom bought this dress in her tiny hometown of Nurmes, Finland, for her graduation from nursing school. When I sent her one of these photos she texted me, "I ❤️ that dress 😊 It takes me back to December 1978 when I was forever 21!!!" Never change, mom!

40 years later (!) I am so tickled by how perfectly on trend this dress is. It's also kinda alarming how precisely it fits me! I actually grew up playing dress-up in this, but recently realized how it's totally ready to wear. I only have a handful of items I've inherited/stolen from my mom, and each of them are so incredibly special to me. Even if 70's style fades out in the next couple years, I know I'll keep this dress forever.

Seriously though RIP all the gems I remember my mom wearing and see in old family photos. I have literally said the sentence "Mom I would KILL someone for the peppermint striped jumpsuit in this picture" multiple times. My mom always says something like "oh I just got tired of it so I got rid of it." !!!

Kinda weird, but have you ever thought about clothing/shoes/accessories you want to keep forever and hand down to your children? It's an argument against cheaply made fast fashion for sure. There's always the chance that your kids will NOT be interested in anything you save, but honestly, fashion is so cyclical that you can bet if the item is classic enough, it WILL be back in style again. And you will be a hero!

This dress is a statement, for sure, like when I got dressed this morning I was thinking DO I dare; but honestly the story behind it is so cool that I don't even care.

I love the color palette in these photos so so SO much! This backdrop made the dress look even better, which I didn't think was possible. Even the grass looks vintage, doesn't it?

Tbh I am halfway to Mardi Gras already, in my heart anyway! We are headed down to New Orleans tomorrow afternoon and I am ridiculously excited. You would think I haven't been on a trip in FOR-EV-ER! That's what it feeeeels like. Feel free to follow along with my shenanigans on Twitter & Insta

February Small Goals

Priya the Blog, Nashville lifestyle blog, small goals February
Helllooo! I skipped over sharing January's Small Goals because there was a lot of blogging going on, but I'm excited to be back on the wagon because January was a great month to get stuff DONE, and I have big plans for February. First, here's what I was working on this past month.

January's Small Goals:

1. Find a new place to live | YUP! This was, understandably, the biggest thing on my mind last month. In the past I've always lived with roommates, but as I was considering my options this time around, I found a perfect spot just for me! I am actually so excited to be living alone for the first time ever. I'm still very much in the moving in phase, but, I'm sure I'll be sharing more soon about finally having a place of my own!!
2. Cleanse | YUP! After the debauchery of the holidays, January is the perfect time to do a little cleanse. To kick off my fitness goals for the year, I cut out alcohol, dairy, gluten, and sugar (my exception to this was for coffee creamer.) I've shared before that I have ZERO self-control when it comes to basically any kind of consumption, which was really my angle in all of this. That, and just feeling good by focusing on eating things that are good for me, instead of like, cookies for dinner, which happens sometimes. I'm really proud of myself for doing the best I've ever done and sticking to this! I had a couple of exceptions built in (when Jenae was in town) but otherwise, I'm giving myself this one!
3. No-buy month | NOPE! I was feeling seriously worn out by consumerism at the end of December, (as was my bank account) and knowing I'd be spending money on stuff for my new place, the goal was to not purchase any clothing/shoes/make-up/etc. I actually made it without any apparel, but a couple make-up-y things I had my eye on were on a pretty good sale. So I can't give myself this one, but I came pretty close.
4. Book tickets to somewhere | YUP! January can feel like such a never-ending drag after the holidays, with the gross weather, all of that. The easiest way to remedy this is have a trip on the books PLUS I've found that airfare is usually really cheap this time of year. I am SO EXCITED to have booked a trip to Mexico City with my sister for the end of February!
5. Dentist appt | YUP! Y'all I am so embarrassed that this is still the same dentist appt. I've been meaning to book since...November? You know how these things just get away from you? Plus, I hadn't even found a new dentist after switching insurance in June. But I finally found a dentist and scheduled this!
6. Clean car | NOPE! My car was pretty dirty, and the start of the year is a great time for all of these refresh tasks however I started moving, and now my car is a total wreck, but I figured, what's the point in doing this before I'm done moving? There we go. Rolling this over.

February's Small Goals:

1. Take my marathon training up a notch | January was dreary, cold, wet, snowy, and not ideal for training for a race! At the end of the month, I had a little freak out when I realized I was exactly 3 months out from the race (April 28th.) Commence getting my shit together. I whipped out my planner, wrote out the mileage I need to hit every week until the race, and I'm so encouraged that I already have two of my longest runs (so far) under my belt! I also had to change up my weekly workout schedule a bit, to better accommodate race training. I switched to three runs and two BBG workouts (IF possible) instead of the other way around, because I was too sore from the BBG to get in good runs (I mean, duh, Priya) which is really my priority right now. Lemme know if you want to talk marathon training/#fitness because I can talk about this forever.
2. Get new trainers | Also part of #1. The trainers I'm running in are about a year old, so I'm due!
3. Haircut | My hair is out of control. I need to get this on the books after Mardi Gras.
4. Plan Sabbatical | Probably my most exciting personal news IS THAT: I am eligible for a one-month sabbatical after being with my company for five years this October! Even if I don't have all my travel booked this month, my goal is to have planned out where I'll be/what I'll be doing. Lots more about this to come.
5. Clean car || I will both need and appreciate this more after all the junk that's been rolling around in my car during my move.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to share my monthly favorites this year- in beauty, pop culture, shopping, life, etc. (like my 2017 series and "Current State of the Union" posts before that.) Those posts can get tedious, but I know a few months into 2018 I'll be itching to share. Maybe it will be a quarterly thing? This is just not the time or place :) What works for you? Let me know in the comments!

Oh, and I'm linking up with Nicole for Small Goals!
