5 Things I'm Excited to Wear This Fall

It's the most wonderful time of the year to get dressed! I like to do this kind of post sometimes to take a lot of the pressure off. This is not exhaustive, this is not all-inclusive, this is not a capsule (heavens no!) It's simply exactly what I've titled it: items/trends/things I'm excited to wear this Fall. Here's the 2016 version of this post.

It's not meant to be entirely a shopping guide, because I am hoping to incorporate things I already own, but let's be real, I have been a shopping FIEND lately. So, shop with me!

1. Sneaks
We are living in a NEW AGE where comfortable footwear is equally stylish! What a time to be alive! I think we might have the whole "model-off-duty vibe" trend to thank. I basically wrote a love letter to my platform Supergas earlier this week (a perfect marriage of sneakers + extra inches) and I'm also really loving my new high-top Vans, my first pair of high-tops ever! I absolutely love a babydoll dress with platform sneaks and really any dress with high-tops, but the combinations are limitless. I've linked to a few other favorite pairs of sneakers below, and more sneaker outfit inspo here!

2. New Animal Print
Animal print itself is nothing new, but when I say "new", I'm talking unchartered territory. Such as: a full-size Bengal tiger print skirt ^^ which I had to order immediately, because I couldn't get over how quirky, darling, unexpected and perfect that print is. Snakeskin (!) which I have never given a second glance to but is suddenly less "trashy step-mom" and more totally on trend (and honestly I have never forgotten this outfit.) Some snow leopard might even make an appearance. I love this print in all areas of life (just bought some sheets) and I think a pencil skirt could be very fun.

3. A Floral Maxi Dress
Who am I?? Have you ever seen me wear a maxi dress before? That's because I don't wear them. But all of a sudden I had this vision of a dark floral maxi dress (preferably a wrap, I think) with booties and maybe a slouchy cardigan and a dark lip?! That's all I want in life. The perfect dress has not found me yet! I can't describe exactly what I'm looking for, though this one ^ from Lucky is pretty dang close; black, not too aggressively floral, a wrap style, gauzy fabric...and yet, I still haven't taken the plunge. I'll obviously keep you posted and if you have found this white whale, please don't keep it to yourself!

4. All the Textures
I know, I know, I'm not going to say "velvet" - though the most plush velour like velvet (yoohoo J.Crew) is on my list. I just mean, the most delicious textures I can find, all the time, as a part of every outfit. Like suede, which I have previously never gravitated to, maybe an animal hair mini-skirt?? And of course all of the yummy chunky knits that come with the season. I have already purchased a suede mini skirt ^^ (and this is reminding me i OWN suede culottes I need to wear a lot more) but overall, I want to be more intentional about incorporating texture(s) into my outfits to make things more interesting.

5. Smock Dresses
You already know. You will find me in a smock dress this Fall. This is the fit of dress for me right now! I feel like I've already talked about these a lot but, just to reiterate, ASOS is the place to go! I'll link to several (that...I own...) below! Here's an outfit with that blue stripey one.

Ok, tell me what *you're* most excited to wear this Fall in the comments below! Thanks for reading.

I wanted to include some Summer adventures that were either completely skipped over on this blog (but still worth mentioning) or blogged about, but I just want to remember again.

Maybe the cutest concert of the Summer - getting to see my little brother play in Atlanta!

Important end of Summer happenings I left out because I feel like I just blogged about them: my sister's "13 Going on 30" th themed birthday party, Labor Day super weekend with my sibs in town.

While it seems like everyone is trying to sneak some Fall trends into their outfits (and hopefully force the hand of the season) I'm over here just trying to get one more wear out of my Summer wardrobe. I like to do this "challenge" (if you will) every time the seasons change, where I line up everything that hasn't been worn that past season on my clothing rack, in an attempt to separate the HAVES from the HAVE-BEENS. I am notoriously terrible at getting rid of things, but this is about as in-my-face as it gets analyzing what is truly just taking up space in my closet.

I wish I could tell you that it's absolutely cutthroat (i.e. if I can't/don't wear that thing, out it goes!) but...like I said I'm really bad at getting rid of things so sometimes I keep them anyway. It's just not that black & white!

For example, THIS SKIRT, which is probably my best vintage find to date, will never get the boot, even if I don't wear it for one Summer. It's just gorgeous.

You can follow along with this "challenge" on my blog Twitter, where I've been doing a decent job of documenting everyday.

I am sad to tell you two things: I lost these sunglasses over Labor Day Weekend, going down the slide on our pontoon boat! Considering I've already reached for them to complete an outfit more than once, I had to order a replacement immediately. These are no longer available at ban.do BUT, they have them in every color on Amazon, so that's cool.

Also sad, I had to list these slides on Poshmark. I love them, but I bought a 6 thinking they would run big (as Madewell/J.Crew shoes tend to do.) Well, they don't, and they're just a bit too snug. They are yours if you want them! I really do love them and am searching for a 6.5, or maybe I'll try a real mule instead (these Target ones are perfect.)

I hope you all had a good weekend! I was getting over a weird sick thing and took it super easy...which is honestly very hard for me to do! There were many episodes of The O.C. involved.

Be sure and check out her shop full of gorgeous, Pri-approved, handmade jewels!

August Boxycharm Review

Pardon me for a slightly delayed Boxycharm review from August! It was a busy month, and it took me a while to get around to taking this picture in daylight. Honestly, I'm still giving these products a fair trial.

Boxycharm is the perfect subscription service for a make-up hoarder, someone just starting out their collection, and everyone in between. $20/month gets you 4-6+ full-sized products, and I've gotten some seriously good stuff. Check out my past reviews here!

If you're thinking about giving it a try, just remember, the retail value of ONE product easily covers the price of the entire box, every month. Sign up for Boxycharm for $20/month!

August's theme was "Life of the Party", which seemed a little all over the place. Here's what I got:
Boxycharm, Boxycharm Review, Boxycharm August 2018, subscription service review, Nashville beauty blog, Nashville beauty blogger, beauty buzz, beauty, subscription box, Wander Beauty, Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks, House of Lashes, House of Lashes Temptress Lashes, Smashbox, Smashbox Be Legendary Triple Tone Lipstick in Berry Ombre, Adesse New York, Adesse New York Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil, Laura Lee Los Angeles, Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Palette, Bang Beauty, Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner,
+ Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner | retail value: $22
This gel liner boasts that it can be used as an "eyeliner, eyeshadow base, or eyebrow pomade." I tried it first as an eyeliner & was NOT feeling it. It went on like putty! I wore it today as an eyebrow pomade (literally, dipped a spoolie brush into it) & that seemed to work a lot better. I actually do not own a single eyebrow pomade product, so I don't think this will totally go to waste (cannot see myself using this instead of a regular eyeshadow primer.)

+ Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Palette | retail value: $19
I was determined to give this a good fair shot, solely based on the quality of the product, independent of any Laura Lee drama happening. I've seen this palette get ripped to shreds by various beauty bloggers, and well. It's pretty terrible. I attempted to use a couple shades the other night for a comedy show and it was a total mess. So much fall-out, so patchy, and I was using my finger, which is about as blended as it gets! I'm willing to give it another try, but also notable is that even though the colors are fun, they're not super user friendly. I don't think is palette is available for purchase anymore, and for good reason.

+ Adesse New York Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil | retail value: $18
I do my nails pretty regularly and was excited to give this a try. I guess I was expecting the formula to be completely different. I think this is more of a "moisturizing top coat", if you will, which is maybe what they were going for. I haven't noticed a huge difference in my cuticles after use, still, I'm not opposed to adding this into my at-home manicure routine.

+ Smashbox Be Legendary Triple Tone Lipstick in Berry Ombre | retail value: $24
Surprisingly, this might be the best item in the box! Surprisingly, because, I opened it and was like WHAT. is this?! I don't know how well you can see in the picture that this lipstick is a stripe of 3 shades. Basically, this is the darker lip liner/lighter lipstick or gloss/lip contouring trend in a tube of lipstick. Because you know I am never going to use multiple products to achieve that look. I've included a selfie with it (& my pedometer lol) on below! I wore this the other night and while it looks cool, the formula is not my fave. Oh, and important to note - to use this correctly, be sure and FLIP the product for application on your bottom lip or it will not work correctly!
Boxycharm, Boxycharm Review, Boxycharm August 2018, subscription service review, Nashville beauty blog, Nashville beauty blogger, beauty buzz, beauty, subscription box, Wander Beauty, Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks, House of Lashes, House of Lashes Temptress Lashes, Smashbox, Smashbox Be Legendary Triple Tone Lipstick in Berry Ombre, Adesse New York, Adesse New York Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil, Laura Lee Los Angeles, Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Palette, Bang Beauty, Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner, + House of Lashes Temptress Lashes | retail value: $12
Lashes are some of the best things to receive in a Boxycharm. This is the second time I've received "multiple wear" lashes (the first pair I wore all Summer) and I really like these. I wore these the other night for some blog pics, so stay tuned. I would say these are still fairly natural, but very full looking. My only question is - how do you clean your multiple wear lashes?? If you have tips, please let me know!

+ Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks | retail value: $13 for 3
Not to sound like a broken record - it's always fun to receive these types of products, and using them is one of the simplest forms of self-care there is! But I can't say I ever truly notice a different after one use. These gold eye masks are pretty and actually go on/stay on very well, no sliding around. I'd say my under eyes looked a bit more hydrated after wearing them, but that's about it.

TOTAL VALUE: $108 !

Honestly, this month's box was not my favorite (especially after last month was so good.) Please share with me your beauty finds, whether by subscription or not, in the comments below!

Weekend Update: #GalinasGiantFlop2018

This is what has taken me since just about right now to recover from! A smashing end to the Summer in Nashville with four of my sibs & an assortment of bonus friends. After being in an over-stimulated, like, high, (not literally, but you do you) for days, I've been so bummed this week. It really went by too fast.

FRIDAY and I am wearing the outfit from my latest outfit post! #accuracy
My guests arrived in a steady stream from Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon. We kicked off Friday with a little Happy Hour at my desk (yay for visits at work!) then eventually made our way to Pearl Diver. I know I haven't done a "Nashville beat" in a while but I am OBSESSED with this South Pacific themed tiki bar. This night ended with a karaoke double header, Nah! - Shania Twain by me, and Picture - Sheryl Crow & Kid Rock by Michael & I (& included other goodies in between.)

SATURDAY
I'm so neurotic that I really enjoy having an "itinerary" to share with my guests in town. Saturday started not so early with a "family run", Art made my dreams come true with homemade Crunchwraps (truly), then the ladies and I took care of grocery shopping for boat day + Labor Day. Sundar & Amber joined in the afternoon and the seven of us rendezvoused in my one bedroom apartment and waited out the thunderstorm. We danced, I gave Carina a bold eye look, it was great. THEN we headed to Live on the Green where we had VIP tickets (theeee move) to see Jimmy Eat World which was very special as family.

SUNDAY
This day was five minutes long but is that always the case when you're on a boat? We rented a double-decker pontoon (we're a Centerhill Lake family) and it was T H E most perfect lake day in the whole world. I mean, a Tennessee bluebird day. This delightful rainbow float brought to you by the Walgreens Summer clearance section. Special shout-out to Christine "Pappu" for joining us! This day concluded with Edley's BBQ & the new episode of Insecure and I was literally rocking until I went to sleep.

MONDAY
Just a good old-fashioned American grill & chill, interspersed with me attempting to convince everyone NOT to fly back to California. Not even the assorted meat pack from Porter Road Butcher could do the job.

I hope you all had a great short week! I don't know how I managed to be traveling or hosting every weekend in August, but I am looking forward to sleeping and getting my life together this weekend, starting with my closet {obviously}. TTYS

a note - #GalinasGiantFlop2018 was a nod to the most epic belly flop that Galina had last time we rented a boat a few years ago.
