Happy Halloween! This post title brought to you by the perfect modern smooth jam by Ella Mai.

I couldn't resist skipping over to my local produce patch a few weeks ago to pick some pumpkins. They've kept my house appropriately garnished since. I'm actually really glad I did it, since it was pretty much the extent of my Halloween festivities this year.

This suede mini skirt is such a favorite lately that I even {irrationally?} squeezed it into my suitcase for my trip. I just couldn't shake the idea of wearing this on a dreamy (--> warm) Fall day in California over Thanksgiving. I have to give a nod to my 5 Things I'm Excited to Wear for Fall list where I first decided I'd be introducing suede into my wardrobe. This skirt is still available at Old Navy and comes in three colors besides mine: black, maroon, and a lovelyyy evergreen.

This skirt plays nicely in a girly pumpkin patch/jewel tones look, and equally (more?) nicely in a grungy/wear to a concert outfit. I do have pictures of the latter that I will share...eventually.

I hate to say that Halloween has gotten completely shafted for me this year (minus said pumpkins!), but I mean, for a totally fine reason. As of 4pm today, I'm OFF for my sabbatical. This week has been a flurry of getting things done and avoiding a stress-induced meltdown, but I made it! Can't quite wrap my brain around a month away from real life. Follow along with exactly where I'll be right here. And please have some Halloween candy/a super extra costume/a spooky libation tonight for me!

Who is a photo dream AND about to drop some new jewelz in her shop, check it out!

October Boxycharm Review

Hello my beauty babes. Let's forget our troubles and talk about some new make-up, it's Boxycharm day!

Mandatory schpeal about the best subscription service on the market: for $20/month, Boxycharm sends you 4-5+ full-sized beauty products, mostly cosmetic focused, with the occasional hair/skin/body product thrown in. Check out all of my past Boxycharm reviews here

October's theme was Alter Ego, which I was hoping would be a lot more spooky/vampy. Here's what I got:
Priya the Blog, Nashville beauty blog, Nashville beauty blogger, Boxycharm review, Boxycharm October 2018 review, subscription service, beauty review, beauty, beauty buzz, Boxycharm, PUR cosmetics, PUR Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade Palette, Briogeo, Briogeo Don't Despair Repair Strength + Moisture Leave-in, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara, IT Cosmetics, Kat Von D, Ahava Body Lotion,
+ PUR Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade Palette | retail value: $38
Pros: This is an eye AND face palette, there are some really gorgeous colors. Cons: The shadows did not blend the best, the blush is PIGMENTED, the highlighter is pretty but not special, the shade range is awkward for creating a lewk. I will say, I watched KathleenLights' review, and she used the bronzer as an eyeshadow (transition shade), which is genius, and ups the value of the palette in my mind! Overall, I wanted to like this more than I actually did.

+ Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Moisture Leave-In Mask | retail value: $16
I'm very low maintenance with my hair in every aspect, because I'm lazy. I'm sure you've noticed ;) I rarely style my hair and therefore use very few products. I'll always appreciate a product that can be easily used by spraying on out of the shower. My hair is also super coarse and essentially horse hair so I will always use a mask. I like this - I sprayed it liberally on my ends and it definitely made my hair look moisturized.

+ Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow | retail value: $20
This was such a bummer - I was very excited to try this iconic product, and I love a liquid lipstick, but this shade is SO close to my skin color that it does not work for me at all. I can't comment a lot on the product otherwise. I so wish I would have received Lolita or literally any other shade! I can make it work when layered with something else, but I don't think it will be a go-to.

+ IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Volumizing Mascara | retail value: $24
I think this mascara will work best when used in tandem with another mascara, but I haven't found the perfect combination yet. On its' own, I like it ok, but I've found it to be pretty clumpy and messy.

+ Ahava Body Lotion | retail value: $10
I know that I've used this several times, but don't have much to say about it! Lotion is lotion to me. It smells nice, and I always need lotion, especially as the weather gets colder and my hands are constantly dry. Apparently a full-size of this retails for $56, so I feel good about this bougie lotion.

TOTAL VALUE: $108 !

I'll be honest - after one full year of being subscribed to Boxycharm, I have cancelled my subscription, for now! Not because I don't think it's fantastic, mostly due to excess and wanting to allocate this spend elsewhere. {EDIT: as I was paying for 3 months at a time, I'm still getting November & December aaaand I'm not mad about it.}

I would still vouch for Boxycharm 100%; whether you are just starting a make-up collection, or looking for an easy and cost friendly way to try out some new stuff. They JUST sent out a survey that was very specific to user's skintones etc. so I bet it will get even better and include some skin makeup finally!

As always - I want to hear about any beauty products you're loving lately, or what you received in your subscription service! Share with me below.

Hi! Here's a peek into my living room! It's my 2nd foray into lifestyle-y blogging [first house post here.]

Here you can see: my porch that's always covered in leaves, my beloved jewel-toned oriental rug, a giant mosquito bite on my leg, my Marimekko pillow covers (my favorite thing in my whole house?), a framed photo of my Queen, my navy velvet couch, my little collection of Polaroids that makes me smile whenever I walk outside, and my pathetic Mums !

And! New kicks! A new-ish dress! Both fresh off my 5 Things I'm Excited to Wear This Fall List.

High-tops are something I don't think I've ever owned, and have purposefully avoided, because they just aren't very gracious to short legs. I still think they are not the most elongating for me, but they are so comfortable and cool looking that I don't even care. Not to mention, a jersey fabric and !purple! They make these in one million colors and fabrics though, so there's something for everyone.

You already know that I am LOVING a Smock Dress these days - they're like the on-trend cousin of the hallowed Swing Dress from a few years ago. This cut is distinctly "smock" and not "swing" and though it's comfy AF, somehow the black makes me feel like I'm not totally schlepping around.

But back to my house. I think I owned two things in this entire room when I moved into my current place. It was kinda overwhelming & pretty fun to put everything together! Though I don't consider myself an expert decorator, & in fact, I wouldn't say I'm GOOD at it, this room is filled with so many things I love.

Do they all necessarily go together? No. Is it the perfect place to lay on my velvet couch and eat Taco Bell while I watch The O.C., and mix up a getting ready drink, and belt out the entire Autobiography album by Ashlee Simpson? Uh that would be a HELL yes.

Well it's officially crunch time before I leave next Wednesday (where all am I going? Here!) I have a laundry list of all the things I still need to do, but that includes some festive fun this weekend. I am going to see my favorite Drag Queen tonight which I am sooo excited for!

What are you all getting into this Halloweekend? Hope everyone stays safe and has the best time!

Be sure and check out her shop full of gorgeous, Pri-approved, handmade jewels!

Mapping My Sabbatical

One week from today I am leaving on my sabbatical !

I should back up and say that I've been very fortunate to work at a place where historically, after five years of employment, you are eligible for a one month sabbatical.

I still remember when I started, five years ago, and co-workers were in and out from their sabbaticals thinking - what would I ever do if I made it to five years and took a sabbatical?! And here we are.

Some One person asked me to share my itinerary, and I thought that'd be fun! You can follow along with exactly where in the world I'll be for the next month (this is also a great way for me to mentally check and double check all my travel plans, honestly.)

I was a little extra in mapping out my trip exactly how it will happen - so, no, I'm not spending any time in London (unforunately!) but I am flying through twice. I also want you to see the ridiculousness of getting from Nashville to Bombay, and also from India to the tiny town my mom is from. I'm not complaining, but wow. #travel. This Triphappy widget is kinda neat in tracking my trip, I can't believe I'm covering almost 26,000 miles! Zoom in to see things in more detail.

One slight bit of context about how I decided to spend my sabbatical. I realized pretty early on I'd want to do a ~*heritage journey*~ of sorts: India, where my Dad is from, Finland, where my Mom is from, and California, where I grew up and all of my family is today. I've spent time in all of these places before, but this time, I am trying to be intentional about it i.e. also doing things I've never done or wouldn't normally do, simply because I have this bonus month to do it. This mostly means being a bougie tourist in India which I have NEVER done before.
From my last trip to Finland in 2015 - that full post here!

October 31st | Nashville --> Atlanta --> London --> Bombay
Next Wednesday evening I'll begin my journey to India & boy is it a haul! I don't actually arrive in Bombay until the early morning of November 2nd. My sister and brother will be arriving about a day later. Excited to explore a city I'm pretty certain I have been to before, but we don't have any concrete plans.

November 5th | Bombay --> Goa
I built my entire trip to India around spending some QT in Goa. Technically I have been to Goa before, when my dad tricked us in 2004 and took us to what was essentially the Fresno equivalent. Like, technically you're in the state of California, but only just. SO excited for this. Looking forward to lots of beach time, hopefully visiting a spice farm and butterfly conservatory, being in the birthplace of Vindaloo (favorite) and those Portuguese influences!

November 9th | Goa --> Bombay --> Jaipur
Skipping through Bombay to get to Jaipur in Northern India. Jaipur is known as the "Pink City", and thus my millennial heart rejoices. Super excited about our hotel and seeing some amazing ruins!

November 13th | Jaipur --> Bombay
I mean, this starts my journey to Finland, basically.

November 14th | Bombay --> London --> Helsinki
Next stop, Finland! Art & I will have an airport rendezvous in London and head to Helsinki.

November 16th | Helsinki --> Joensuu
This is really a brief stop in Helsinki on our way to my mother's tiny hometown of Nurmes.

November 17th | Joensuu --> Nurmes
Pit-stop in Joensuu en route to Nurmes. I actually love the beautiful city of Joensuu though and looking forward to spending some time there with extended family.

November 18th | Nurmes --> Joensuu
This really comes down to an overnight trip to my mom's hometown, to see my sweet grandparents and visit the family farm. I'm seriously marveling at how my parents ever traveled back and forth from India to Finland, I mean, this is a trek.

November 19th | Joensuu --> Helsinki
Excited to spend a couple full days in Helsinki, exploring, shopping, and hanging with my uncle & family.

November 21st | Helsinki --> NYC --> Charlotte --> San Francisco
The haul from Finland to the Bay Area for Thanksgiving, which is my favorite time and place of the year. I'll be kickin' it with my entire family and a few best friends, there may be wine tasting involved and there will definitely be ping-pong.

November 25th | Bay Area --> Los Angeles
I really have a dream to rent a car and take the beautiful drive down State Route 1 to Southern California, stopping wherever I fancy - Hearst Castle? Big Sur? Art has to head back to work (what, not everyone can just take three weeks off?) so this is just a solo California road-trip. Then I am SO excited to spend some time with my nephew who I miss so much (and my brother & sister-in-law.)

November 28th | Los Angeles --> San Diego
I'm really looking forward to finishing my trip with a bang - visiting my older brother in an area I have grown to absolutely love.

December 1st | San Diego --> Nashville
And this brings me back to Nashville, right back where I started from.

There we have it!

Because some of you might be wondering - I will be packing in a carry-on for ease and logistics and my temperature range is *78* degrees. Yes. Am I crazy? Can I do it? Will keep you posted. I don't think it will be a particularly stylish trip, but I'm hoping to blog about this post-mortem.

No one has asked, but will I be blogging while I'm gone? I'll hopefully have a few posts pre-scheduled to go up (though even that is subject to me getting it done) but otherwise, not planning on it! The best way to follow along with my adventure will be on Instagram/personal Twitter + blog Twitter.

Okay. Almost ready for my big adventure! Thanks for reading!

Now that the weather has finally changed in Nashville *halleloo* it's time to share my final Summer outfit (promise!) Heads up - all my outfits are categorized by season, just check that handy label on the post! I'm surprised by how many times I managed to wear this top on the blog, which I think solidifies it as my ~*Summer 2018 top~*. These jeans are the Madewell Flea Market Flares which apparently they aren't making anymore?! But, just get yours on Poshmark, where I found mine (use code PRIYAPAPPU when you sign up!)

I have a "Nashville murals" blog post kicking around my brain, because I think I have a few off-the-beaten-path ones to share. Murals that I at least haven't seen on other blogs, this one included! Which feels actually kinda fitting for the political climate right now. I don't have an eloquent political statement, but I will say: I believe women. I support women. And I will be voting in a way that reflects that.

And, I will be voting early, because the biggest thing on my mind is that I am leaving for my sabbatical for the month of November (!!!), in just under three weeks! Maybe if anyone is interested, and I can get it together in time, it'd be fun to write a sabbatical itinerary blog post, just to outline where all I'll be going and what I'll be up to! Also maybe just to finalize my plans for my own brain. I really can't believe it's almost here and I am so excited.

Do you all have big plans this weekend? Art & I had talked about going camping, but there was just too much going on, so we're in town hanging around! Really it's a Saturday sandwiched in between our friend's album release show last night and the Teenage Wrist show with friends tomorrow (and then Chvrches at the Ryman on Monday, actuallyyyy #nashville.) Hope you have a great one and thanks for reading xo

Am I going full lifestyle blogger?! Maybe. Probably not. But welcome to my favorite part of my little apartment: my back deck!

Lately my preferred method of hanging with a friend is out on the deck over a glass of wine OR a cocktail, maybe with some mint from my mint plant?? LOOK OUT. By the way -- mint is self-propagating, so make a friend with a mint plant and steal a sprig of theirs to plant for yourself! It will grow pretty happily and easily, that's the key here. I'm tricking you into thinking I'm a botanical goddess when I am NOT. This mint is from Art's mom's garden :) Out there with the string lights and the radio is pretty perfect to me!

As far as the outfit goes: my sister actually bought this dress for her 13 Going on 30 birthday party, and it was too big for her :| so she gave it to me. Looks like it's still available in limited sizes online, and it does feel like a very luxe sundress. I don't have much else to say! I guess that's why they call it a lifestyle blog. Oh, I kinda apologize for doing the cape-jacket thing...but not really.

I am always fascinated by seeing people's living spaces (or maybe I'm just nosy?) It's so demonstrative of life, duh, as well another great way to record a chapter of life. This phase won't last forever, but I'll always cherish it; being 27 and living alone for the first (and last?) time in my one bedroom duplex.

Though these photos are a deviation from the norm, I thought it would be fun to shoot out here! I wanted to invite you further into my little space that's totally my own, that I completely decorated and am proud to call my own. Adriane & I actually shot some pictures in my living room this weekend so stay tuned! Can't wait to share them!

Hope you guys had a good weekend. Alissa was visiting Nashville so we got to meet up on Friday !!! Then I attended a gorgeous wedding on Saturday, and Sunday too (not just the wee hours, but that too.) SO I feel like I was hit by a truck today.

An absolute dream for your photography, ceramic, and general creative needs!

September Boxycharm Review

Who's ready for a fresh crop of new Boxycharm products from September??

ICYMI: Boxycharm is a subscription service that sends you 4-5+ full-sized products for $20/month. Usually more in the cosmetic realm, but has also included skincare, nail polish, body lotion etc. I've received many ~*prestige*~ (as they say) brands like Tarte, Smashbox, Becca, Lorac, IT Cosmetics & more, and the retail price of ONE item pretty much always covers the price of the box. If you're a make-up lover, I don't think you'd be disappointed with a Boxycharm subscription!

September's theme was "Wildflower", though I was hoping it would be more of a Fall preview. And I'll be honest, sometimes I totally half-ass these reviews, but this time, each product has been given a fair trial. I've thoroughly tested each product multiple times! Read on for reviews.
Boxycharm, beauty buzz, beauty, subscription box, Pretty Vulgar, Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette, Alamar Cosmetics, Alamar Cosmetics Ojitos Brush Trio, Laura Geller, Laura Geller Baked Blush, Luscious Cosmetics, Luscious Cosmetics Angel Eyes Primer, Lorac Cosmetics, Lorac Cosmetics Pro Matte Lip Color in Cabernet, Boxycharm Review, Boxycharm September 2018, Boxycharm September 2018 review
+ Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette | retail value: $35
I don't dislike this palette, however: as you can probably tell, it is cool-toned as hell! Who is doing a cool-toned eye look right now? I had to force myself to use it a few times, when what I really wanted was a warm smokey eye. I was able to do a couple simple looks I liked ok, but I don't see myself reaching for this over my other palettes. However, if you are looking for a cool-toned smokey palette, I think this is a great option.

+ Alamar Cosmetics Ojitos Brush Trio | retail value: $18
I generally think you can always use more brushes, and especially eye brushes. Maybe it's because I'm lazy. But realistically, once you use that fluffy crease brush ONCE in a cool-toned smokey eyeshadow palette ^ it's done until you wash it. I like these brushes, especially the fluffy one (which I need to wash.) I also think it's cute that we got the Alamar palette (which is, honestly, one of the best things I've gotten in Boxycharm) and now the matching set of brushes! Love a set!

+ Laura Gellar Blush-n-Brighten Baked Blush in Tropic Hues | retail value: $28
This is a beautiful product and certainly the most expensive blush I own. It's less of a pigmented blush and more of an overall glow. I think it's perfect for when you don't have time/space for blush and highlighter, because it's a pretty good hybrid. I love blush,  and especially this time of year. So I would have preferred something more seasonal, but this will be nice for next Summer!

+ Luscious Cosmetics Angel Eyes Primer | retail value: $14
Honestly I rarely wear a dedicated eye primer, because I use a face primer and then prime my eyes with concealer as well. But for when you have an very special eye look you want to last all night...an eyeshadow primer is an extra step that will help. I've used this a few times and been pleased with how my eyeshadow has lasted. One thing to note, it is a flesh tone instead of being sheer, which could be bothersome if you have very fair skin. I have an old crusty tube of eye primer that I can probably throw out and replace with this!

+ LORAC Cosmetics Pro Matte Lip Color in Cabernet | retail value: $19
I was so excited about this! It's a deep wine shade that couldn't be more perfect for Fall (here's what it looks like on me.) This type of "pen" makes application easy and pretty flawless, because it's almost like a lipliner and lipstick in one. I will say I absolutely love this color, and the formula is great, for a few hours. It is not the best long-term lipstick, I have worn it on a couple long nights out and it has balled up. Something to keep in mind!

TOTAL VALUE: $114 !

Happy OCTOBER everyone! What better way to celebrate than with a nice Summer-y outfit. No editorial calendar, remember?

This outfit is made up of several favorites from this Summer: this pink linen stripey blouse from Zara, my Old Navy Rockstar jeans, all my new dainty jewelry, and these random little slides from H&M.

I decided to dip my toe (teehee) into the slides trend very casually, because although I like the look of them, they never seemed like they'd be very comfortable? I ended up liking these a LOT, I sized down a half size so they fit pretty snug, and the color is just adorable! I think I might actually order some heeled mules for Fall (I ordered these but now I think I want their low-key sister instead?)

When Art & I were in Chattanooga in August, I mentioned to him I was in the market for some dainty everyday jewelry (all I own are blogger statement necklaces and ostentatious vintage earrings.) So then I bought it all! I've been loving my ring stacks and necklace stack - the tiny crown replaced my GIANT crown necklace (I still love it, but not so subtle and desperately in need of a polish) and the bottom necklace has a Gemini charm! I'm not super into astrology but the charm is cute and I *am* a Gemini, after all. Does that explain everything?

Also, you might spy a little pedometer on my pants! We just wrapped up a 10,000 steps/day challenge at work for the month of September. Which basically just means I was pacing and running in place while I got ready for bed every night and I'm fairly certain my foot has a stress fracture. I'm decently active and 10,000 steps was really hard for me!

Isn't this mural great? It's actually walking distance from my house (I mean...should I just hand out address labels or what) so I drive by it multiple times a day, and have always mentally bookmarked it for some blog pics. It's tucked on the side of a row of shops, mostly empty for now, but rumor has it we'll be getting a cat cafe and a Korean place shortly! It's super low-key (no mural lines!) and so pretty, not to mention I could change outfits at my house....SOLD!

I hope you're having a great start to the best month of the year! Ok bye!

Be sure and check out her shop full of gorgeous, Pri-approved, handmade jewels!
