Here's what I received this month:
+ Crown Blush Brush | Retail: $12I do love that Boxycharm will send you a palette with a corresponding brush, however, when I picked up this brush I immediately thought, this is wayyy too dense for blush (let alone, super pigmented glittery blushes. STOP!) Several beauty experts have reinforced this. But, let’s not let that detract from this being a great, fluffy, soft, dense, make-up brush. My first thought was to use it to fill the void of an under eye setting brush, and I’m gonna try it for cream contouring next!
+ tarteist Lash Paint Mascara | Retail: $23
This is the win of this Boxycharm for me- a full-sized mascara is always welcome in my home! I was actually in the market for a new tube when lo and behold (the BEAUTY of Boxycharm.) I was super excited to try this, having heard great things, and Tarte products are generally amazing and I want them all. This, as far as I can tell, is the Tarte version of the Benefit They’re Real! mascara (my all-time favorite.) Something about this spindly brush (see that close-up, girlll ^) totally works. And whoever is responsible for packaging at Tarte- give that lady a raise!
+ Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick in Secret Sabotage | Retail: $24
I had my first foray into metallic liquid lipstick earlier this year and LOVED it (Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit in Harbor a Crush, worn here!) I am shocked by how pink it swatched (far left below) because this looks totally nude on me, which is subtle, as far as metallic lipstick goes (honestly- I would have preferred a darker shade.) Unlike many liquid lipsticks, this one is not suffocating and really does stay creamy after it dries down. It couldn’t be more festive for this time of year- and this packaging is GORG.
+ Beauté Basics Bronze Essentials Palette | Retail: $40
Things that are wrong about this palette: first of all, you can’t even open it without mega fall-out from those shimmery shades e-very-where (see this in the swatches below.) This of course means that the shimmery gold is mixed across every shade in the palette- I thought, ok, at least I can use the darkest matte shade for contouring but NOT when it’s riddled with shimmer, I can’t! I would really like to know how you’re expected to use this palette. You can’t stripe across it with a brush (to use where?) and again, when I tried to use the dark shade to contour, even my skinniest brush was too big. So! I’m at a loss here. And how on earth is this a $40 product?! No, thanks.
+ RealHer Blush Kit | Retail: $32
I love blush- but I opened this palette and thought WOAH that is some glittery blush. Well, the swatches don’t lie (starting from second left below) I don’t know that I’d ever reach for the first shade, but I’ve mixed the second two a couple times with a pretty nice result. Apart from the shades themselves, the product is just not my favorite. When something is this expensive ($32) I just expect it to be great (for reference, the Tarte blush palette is $39) but this one does not stack up.
COST ME: $20
TOTAL VALUE: $131 !!
I always go back and forth with subscription services, and while I really want for nothing, my subscription auto-renews for 3 months in January aaaaand it's good enough that I'm not cancelling, for now. :)
Do you have a subscription service that you absolutely love? Can you tell me how to use that bronzer palette? What's your take on metallic liquid lipstick? And if you're subscribed to Boxycharm too- what'd you get this month? Share with me below!
