Hay friends! Still working through blogging about our trip to Europe this Summer :) in case you missed the first installment of this series, rather than do an exhaustive travel guide (which I literally don't think I could do if I tried) I'm just sharing bits of what we LOVED in each city we visited. Hope this helps you if you find yourself in San Sebastián, Biarritz, Porto, Aveiro/etc!
+ Pintxos (Spanish tapas) everywhere! But especially: Atari Gastroleku, which we determined had the best ham & croquettes (you can also sit & eat on the steps of an old church, pictured above, which is magical!). We also visited Gandarias more than one night! This is making me so hungry.
+ Cheesecake at La Viña - we providentially got a slice after first being told they were all out, amazing!
+ Had an awesome morning run on the promenade along the La Concha Bay - great route to run or walk!
+ We lunched at Saline Ceviche Bar - total California surf town vibes & local West Coast IPAs to match!
+ La Grande Plage is the beautiful beach at the base of ^ hydrangea hill, where all my dreams came true.
+ Biarritz is full of adorable boutiques! I found these rainbow striped espadrilles at JOX&AN.
+ Casa Guedes had THE most perfect roast pork & sheep cheese sandwich, that we ate on more than once occasion. Sounds strange, but it is a magical little sandwich. They also make their own Vino Verde!
+ Try all the Vino Verde you can, I was delighted to find an old favorite of mine, Gazela, is locally made.
+ Do a port tasting! I knew nothing about Port, but we toured & did a tasting at Calem. It was awesome.
+ I have dreamed about Francesinhas since I tasted one in Porto. These iconic sandwiches are a Porto specialty and are made with thick bread, cured ham, Portuguese sausage, roast beef, all covered in melted cheese and a tomato and beer sauce with a fried egg on top. YEAH. Be sure and try one!! We found ours at Brasão Cervejaria where they serve a specialty beer brewed to pair with the Francesinha! Be warned that basically all you can do after this meal is take a nap.
+ For a few Euro, you can climb to the top of Clérigos Tower (top photo) for an amazing view of the city, then reward yourself afterwards with a glass of Vino Verde at the BASE garden lounge/bar (third photo.)
+ We stayed in the sleepy beach town of Costa Nova. Our Airbnb was ~ $100 a night & walking distance from the beautiful, very Florida panhandle like beach!
+ The area was sleepy, so it was a little harder to find restaurants/bars, but during the day, we enjoyed the Bronze beach bar for ciders and sandwiches.
+ Maybe the best meal of our entire trip was at Canastra Do Fidalgo - complete with barnacles, cockles, squid and potatoes, and seafood rice - everything was delicious and the service was awesome!
Next up: what we loved in Madrid, Salamanca, and Barcelona!
