This outfit may be slightly unseasonable (though it’s never stopped me before) although we did have a final cold snap last week, which felt like sweater weather!

I mentioned recently how, in an effort to combat the style rut I felt last year, I made the resolution to come up with three outfit formulas/season that felt comfortable, on trend, and made me feel confident. This is certainly one of my tried & true Winter outfit formulas:

oversized sweater + leggings or skinny jeans + booties

The proportions of an oversized sweater (the bigger, the better) and fitted bottom feels so flattering and comfortable to me. I like to add a heeled bootie to further balance out the weight of the sweater, and of course, elongate my legs, which is always the goal. The nice thing about this formula too is that it can easily skew more casual or dressy, depending on your choice of items - though neither option is less comfy!

I tried to pinpoint exactly my other two outfit formulas from the Winter, but I didn’t specifically write them down. I do catalog my outfits on my Twitter more frequently than here (more frequently in this moment…I have been doing it forever but sometimes a month or two will go by and I’m like, oh yeah! It is a nice way to quickly save an outfit AND I’m just not that into Instagram. But I’m sure you knew that! ;)

Two other outfit formulas I know I came back to when getting dressed this Winter were:

dress + tights + booties

turtleneck + high waisted pants + loafers

With 2/3 of these formulas including booties, I should go ahead and conclude that these white combat booties, which I essentially purchased on a whim from the Nordstrom sale last Summer, have been my most worn shoe since I got them. I just always want to wear them with every outfit and constantly reach for them! They seem to make whatever I’m wearing feel on trend - even if the rest of the look is simple. I’m really going to miss them this Summer and I’m seriously considering adding another pair of combat boots to my closet…platform Dr. Marten Chelsea boots!

I think I may have mentioned these leggings several times but after wearing velvet leggings from Target for yearsss, this pair from Spanx feel like a major upgrade. I don’t know why I didn’t get them sooner! I wore them multiple times a week for a while after they came in the mail.

As this is still largely a fashion blog I should mention some big news that relates - Art & I are getting ready to begin a renovation project at our house, which includes…a new closet!! Now, this is not the island, ottoman, boutique shoe shelved walk-in of my dreams dreams, but still, will be the nicest closet I’ve ever had, and I am SO EXCITED.

I’m excited to finally prove my hypothesis that having access and visibility to my entire wardrobe at once will instantly improve my personal style. I’ll keep you posted.

Life feels busy but still abnormal and I can’t decide if it’s just post Covid “busy” or actually busy (it’s the former.) That is such a weird thing that I’m sure people are already writing think pieces about!
