Last week, for another manager's meeting with my internship, I was able to visit The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson and a Tennessee landmark. Since taking AP US History my junior year of high school, I have become a US history buff (I made up a song so I can name all the presidents). I just enjoy it, plus I love touring old houses, plus I figured that since I've been in TN for going on four years it was about time I visited.
The front door.
Loved this porch.
The grounds were beautiful, it was such a gorgeous early fall day.
The back of the house and the kitchen (to the right).
Went off the path for this one :O
Entering the beautiful and melancholy "Rachel's Garden", named for Jackson's wife that died prematurely.
The cemetary plot in the garden, where the family is buried.
Couldn't resist a boot shot!
What I really wanted at the gift shop.
What I actually got- postcard for Mom, postcard for Katie (my APUSH buddy), pin for me, pin for Rachel (that says "Rachel's Garden").
Well I thoroughly enjoyed visiting, and learning about the Jackson's and the extensive crew it took to run a plantation. Other highlights include some incredible wall-paper from the 1800's with Greek mythology on it (they don't make 'em like they used to), a spiraling staircase, and of course the beautiful garden. Seriously, what would it have been like to live in the 1800's? Wild.

This looks beautiful! I've been to Tennessee two years ago, but unfortunatly I wasn't able to visit this beautiful place.
I will follow your blog now :) I hope you will also follow me :)
xx
No way! What brought you to TN? Were you in Nashville at all? That's awesome!! And hooray thanks for following along!
Greek mythology wallpaper?! Wow! They don't make it like they used to....
This place looks absolutely amazing! And all of your photos are just so lovely!
Haha yeah it was pretty intense, and the most intricate wallpaper I have ever seen! Thanks for coming by!
It was really pretty. Thank you so much! Glad you came by Amanda!
i've been in that general area quite a few times, but i've never been. looks like it's worth the visit
and i totally had those paper dolls! if i'm not mistaken, they were kind of frustrating because they weren't pop-out, and then they just looked terrible after my sister and i had our hands to the scissors.
thanks for stopping by my blog today! :)
My little sis had a paper doll obsession and I'm pretty sure those were part of her collection! Looks like a fun trip for a history buff!
oh how neat - i am not a big history buff - but i like when i can tour things on my own and take photos like this. i love the architecture and difference in periods throughout the US

Cool place!
Morgan- awesome that you've been to TN! Nashville is such a fun place (I'm a little biased) but I definitely recommend it if you get the chance!
Being an avid paper-doller (?) myself, I totally feel ya. The cut-out kind were the absolute worst! Who has those mobility skills as a child?!
Ha I totally also have a paper doll obsession (or I DID, ok I don't really anymore), this would be a nice addition!
Oh did I give the impression we could tour on our own? Those tour guides were NOT messing around. We had to throw away our gum before we went in! And we couldn't take pictures inside, which I guess is pretty standard. I love looking period pieces of the US too, this made me want to read Gone With The Wind absolutely!
Thanks Joanne! It is!! I believe a family trip to TN is in order :)
